Running Head: COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYING STYLE 1 What Style of Ball Should a College Basketball Team Play? January 14, 2018 COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYING STYLE 2 Abstract The question I am trying to answer in this paper is “what style of ball should a college basketball team play?” To answer this question, I analyzed the data of points per game, opponent points per game, and winning percentage of every Division I and Division II and almost every Division III basketball team for the 2016-17 season. I concluded that offense is slightly more important than defense for Division II and Division III college basketball teams. Division II and Division III coaches can apply this finding by emphasizing their recruiting on better scorers. Keywords: player selection, playing style, recruiting COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYING STYLE 3 What Style of Ball Should a College Basketball Team Play? The question I am trying to answer in this paper is “what style of ball should a college basketball team play?” I got the idea for this question from the chapter in Tobias J.

  • Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtmann Previews Matchup with Michigan
Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtmann Previews Matchup With Michigan After winning back-to-back games against Northwestern and Indiana, the Ohio State men’s basketball team (14-7, 4-6) will look to win its third in a row against Michigan (13-8, 4-6) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Just one day before the Michigan matchup, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann spoke to members of the media about the upcoming game. Michigan is a really good team, playing really well. Lot of respect for Michigan first-year head coach Juwan Howard and how him and his staff are doing. Bad luck or bad three-point defense? There’s some of both. But we’ve got to figure out some ways to contest and challenge three-pointers better. Michigan senior guard Zavier Simpson has a lot of great attributes, but I think his best attribute is his brain. His ability to read the defense is phenomenal. Offensively we’ve been pretty good, but our defensive numbers have got to get better. Offensively, we have to lower the amount of turnovers. The Indiana game was a really clean one offensively for us. Our ball movement was really good against Northwestern, too. Our ball movement is better, and part of it was how Indiana played defensively. When you’re in the best league in the country, it’s going to happen. Your biggest concern is how you’re playing. I’m interested to see how guys getting more minutes and changing roles with DJ Carton out will impact us and how they’ll develop through that.

  • Mega Conferences
Non-revenue sports Football, of course, provides the impetus for any conference realignment. In men's basketball, coaches will lose the built-in recruiting tool of playing near home during conference play and then at Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tournament. But what about the rest of the sports? Here's a look at the potential Missouri Pittsburgh Syracuse Nebraska Ohio State Northwestern Minnesota Michigan St. Wisconsin Purdue State Penn Michigan Iowa Indiana Illinois future of the non-revenue sports at Rutgers if it joins the Big Ten: BASEBALL Now: Under longtime head coach Fred Hill Sr., the Scarlet Knights made the Rutgers NCAA Tournament four times last decade. The Big East Conference’s national clout was hurt by the defection of Miami in 2004. The last conference team to make the College World Series was Louisville in 2007. After: Rutgers could emerge as the class of the conference. You find the best baseball either down South or out West. The power conferences are the ACC, Pac-10 and SEC. A Big Ten team has not made the CWS since Michigan in 1984. MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Now: At the Big East championships in October, Rutgers finished 12th out of 14 teams. Syracuse won the Big East title and finished 14th at nationals. Four other Big East schools made the Top 25. After: The conferences are similar. Wisconsin won the conference title and took seventh at nationals. Two other schools made the Top 25. MEN’S GOLF Now: The Scarlet Knights have made the NCAA Tournament twice since 1983.
