Florida Dept. of Commerce, Division of Tourism

MEMBERS A._""l"D GUFS f~ OF THE DEI EGA fl ON.

As Co-Chairs of the Florida Delegation , we would like to welcome you to the 1996 Democratic National Convention. We are delighted to have you with us for this momentous event.

With a total of 203 members, Florida has the sixth largest delegation in Chicago. Florida Democrats are well represented not only in number but by the high level of diversity within our delegation. The women and men who make up Florida's delegation are of all ages , represent a wide range of ethnic, racial, reli gious and economic backgrounds , and come from all parts of our great state. Furthermore, in keeping with Democratic Party tradition , we are very proud of the powerful grass roots representation among our delegation. * Our strong presence in Chicago will be a fitting prelude to the Sunshine State's crucial role in the re election of President Clinton . Both at the Convention and at the polls this fall , Florida Democrats will be critical to ensuring that the effective and inspiring leadership we have seen over the past four years con tinues into the next century.

Again , welcome to Chicago - and let's get ready to show that dedicated Florida Democratic spirit!

Sincerely, ~t:H, Governor ~If)~ Terrie Brady Party Chair rn~o FloriUa Delegation

C \ERVI We are thrilled to have the Palmer House as the designated hotel for the Florida Delegation. Built over one hundred years ago, the Palmer House is one of the most renowned and historic hotels in the country - the first to offer electric lights and later the first to feature telephones in each room. It was also the first to offer a vertical railroad connecting floor to floor: the first hotel elevator!

Today, the Palmer House offers every amenity to its guests. The hotel has an extensive room service menu as well as five restaurants - The French Quarter, Trader Vies, Palmers Steak and Seafood House, Palmers Coffee Shop and Windsors Lobby Bar and Cafe - with fare to meet a wide range of tastes. It also features several shops, a pool and fitness club - which offers a full line a nautilus equipment, weights and machines as well as a steam room, sauna and whirlpool.

FLORID}'\ D c, rG\TrO CAL\..,U...., kOOM With regard to convention business and delegation meetings, the Monroe Room on the sixth floor of the Palmer House is the designated caucus room for the Florida Delegation. Our morning caucus breakfasts and any other Delegation * meetings will be held in the Monroe Room , and we will also open up the room each evening to provide a place for Delegation guests to watch convention coverage. Please note that credentials are to be picked up and signed for in person each morning directly in front of the entrance to the Monroe Room .

1 oru1 .JL 1e, 1 P :ir· c --ic- The will also have office space in Parlor A - the room just down the hall from the Monroe Room. We will have staff and volunteers in our Parlor A office to assist you from Friday, August 23 through Friday, August 30. Please refer to the enclosed list for the Democratic Party staff who are joining us in Chicago . Florida Media will have office space in the LaSalle Rooms on the seventh floor of the hotel.

AITRA I( 1\ As reflected in the enclosed map , among the many assets of the Palmer House is its fabulous location. In the center of the city's cultural and civic areas and business and financial district, the hotel is in close proximity to a number of Chicago's top attractions: the Art Institute of Chicago, Buckingham Fountain , Sears Tower, Orchestra Hall, Shubert Goodman and Auditorium Theaters, Herald Washington Library, Shedd Aquarium/Oceanarium , Adler Planetarium , Natural History Museum, Navy Pier, Merchandise Mart, and Daley Plaza - home of the internationally famous Picasso sculpture. And don't forget the shopping! The Palmer House is in walking distance of the State Street Shopping District, which includes over 300 stores and boutiques such as Marshall Fields and Crate & Barrel , and is also just a few blocks away from Chicago's famous Magnificent Mile - the amazing array of shops along North Michigan Avenue.
