Stephanie A. Miner

Profile Stephanie A. Miner is the 53rd Mayor of the City of Syracuse and was first elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013. Mayor Miner is the first woman elected Mayor of Syracuse and the first woman to lead one of New York’s “Big 5” cities. She has taken a leading role in the discussion of municipal finance, infrastructure, and innovation in public policy in the United States. Prior to being elected mayor, Miner worked as an attorney specializing in the area of labor law. Responsible for managing an approximately $600,000 budget , two thousand employees, and thirty departments, including a dependent school district. Represented clients in matters regarding employment and fringe benefits, in federal and state courts as well as administrative agencies, including federal and state departments of labor, Internal Revenue Service, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and National Labor Relations Board. CITY COUNCILOR, SYRACUSE COMMON COUNCIL; SYRACUSE, N.Y. - 2002-2009 Twice elected to city-wide council position. Chaired the Finance Committee for eight years and was a member of the Airport Committee, Housing Committee, and Education Committee. As a Common Councilor, championed and helped pass legislation that gave $1 million in initial funding to Say Yes to Education, a program providing support services for Syracuse City School District students and promises free or reduced tuition to students who graduate from City high school.
