For all the success Deputy Minister=s sons have enjoyed both on the racetrack and in the breeding shed- - and it has been considerable--his daughters have done just as much to turn the spotlight onto this influential son of Vice Regent. Deputy Minister=s second crop, born back in 1986, was headed by that outstanding filly Open Mind, whose record of 12 victories from 17 starts in her first two seasons was enough to earn her the Eclipse Award for her division both at two and three. History repeated itself with Deputy Minister=s third crop, thanks to Go For Wand. This magnificent filly had compiled a record of 10 wins and a pair of seconds from 12 starts prior to her tragic accident, when trying to repel Bayakoa=s challenge, in the 1990 Breeders= Cup Distaff.

  • September Yearling Sale 75Th Annual
September Yearling Sale 75th Annual The Keeneland September Yearling Sale has evolved from humble beginnings to become the global marketplace for Thoroughbred yearlings. From 1944, the inaugural year, through 1948, the fall yearlings were sold in an auction which included broodmares, weanlings, stallions and horses of other ages. In 1949, approximately half of the yearlings were sold in a separate October sale and the remainder in a November mixed stock sale as usual. In 1950, the yearlings were sold separately by session, but in the same week as the other stock. In 1951, the fall yearling sales were set farther apart from the fall mixed stock sale, with the yearling auctions preceding the other sale by a week or more. In 1960, the yearling sales were moved to September. In 1981, the yearling sale was held in two four-day segments. Selected sessions were inaugurated in 1989. Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier paid $2.7 million for the highest-priced horse of the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, a filly by Tapit who is a full sister to 2017 Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) Keeneland/Photos by Z Keeneland/Photos winner Cupid. • Gretzky= Scores Another Grade I Win for Nyquist In
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 >GRETZKY= SCORES THE WEEK IN REVIEW: AFTER GUILTY PLEAS, WILL MORE TRAINERS BE CHARGED? ANOTHER GRADE I WIN by Bill Finley The next chapter in the scandal that has rocked Thoroughbred FOR NYQUIST IN SUMMER racing played out last week when Scott Robinson and Sarah Izhaki both pled guilty to charges relating to the sale and distribution of performance-enhancing drugs used to dope race horses. It was an important development, but the bigger story is this: will it lead to a new and extensive list of indictments against trainers and others who so far have not been charged? That possibility certainly exists. For now, everything is speculation and the Department of Justice has not said whether or not Izhaki and Robinson are cooperating in the probe, but it's not hard to connect the dots and come up with a scenario where the two are cooperating with authorities and ready to name names.
