InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 3 Announcement 110-074 Integrated tractor and tractorless (pinless) paper path

The InfoPrint 4100 was developed with an integrated tractorless paper path.

Tractorless printing can reduce operational costs by allowing you to order paper directly from a mill without the need to order rolls that have been converted by having tractor holes added. In addition, waste is reduced as there is no need to trim tractor strips from the edges of the form after printing.

The InfoPrint 4100 has the ability to register tractorless forms to within 1.5 mm, anywhere on the page from the opposite side. This enables accurate placing of information on preprinted forms.

E-mail alert notifications

The InfoPrint Controller provides the capability to send alert messages based on events occurring in the printer. The three types of e-mail notification are:

• General Action Items: These are interventions that may normally be resolved by an operator or administrator. For example, paper path jams, transfer station open, drum cover open, and tension arm up. • Supplies Alerts: These are usually warnings related to consumables, such as to add toner, toner collection full, end of forms, toner supply low, change fine filter, or fuser oil empty. • Service Alerts: This class of alerts may require intervention by an InfoPrint Customer Support Specialist. These alerts include hotroll lamp failures, engine communications problems, controller failures, and print engine failures.

This e-mail notification requires that an SMTP mail server must be available on the network and its hostname must also be configured in the printer.

Where appropriate, notification can be provided to multiple e-mail destinations.

InfoPrint Controller console

The InfoPrint Controller includes a user-friendly operator console with a graphic user interface (GUI).

The operator console hardware consists of a flat-panel, touchscreen display with a keyboard and mouse. The large flat-panel display provides clear, easily recognizable commands and functions. The keyboard and mouse expand the operator interface alternatives.

The GUI provides simple, standard buttons and functions for all capabilities. Special emphasis has been placed on minimizing the number of menus and the number of clicks that an operator must go through in order to perform a task.

Printing color jobs on the InfoPrint 4100

Grayscale printing is a standard feature on all InfoPrint 4100 printers, and enables the simulation of color printing by using different tones (shades) of gray to represent different colors. Using this capability, the InfoPrint 4100 can print Advanced Function Printing (AFP) full-color text (PTOCA), full-color business graphics (GOCA), single- color backgrounds for AFP objects, and single-color AFP images (IOCA FS10 and IM image) in grayscale without modification.

In addition, the AFP Color Emulation optional feature supports the printing of industry-standard color and grayscale image objects on monochrome printers. The image types listed below are supported natively in the printer controller. This adds the flexibility to reuse image objects across multiple monochrome and color

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 4 Announcement 110-074 workflows. AFP Color Emulation also supports a workflow of variable data images such as those used in check-printing applications. The AFP Color Emulation feature supports the following image types:

• TIFF • GIF • JPEG/JFIF TM • IPDS IOCA FS11 • IPDS IOCA FS45

Potential applications include:

• Printing production statements incorporating grayscaled, industry-standard, full-color image objects. Examples include production statements that incorporate variable data and cached image objects (such as a company logo) or advertisements with photographs. • Printing variable data check image objects (TIFF or FS11). For example, 2 grayscale or bi-level check images from a check scanner used for a Check 21 application or for bank statements.

The AFP Color Emulation feature (#4850, 4851) has the following prerequisite on the Model TD2:

• Performance Upgrade (#4664).

2 Check 21 is the Check Clearing Act for the 21st Century. Refer to the Federal Reserve Web site for details http://www.federalreserve.gov

AFP Color Management

TM AFP Color Management Architecture on InfoPrint 4100 printers complements the AFP Color Emulation feature on these printers to provide the following customer benefits:

3 • Ability to print color applications, without change , on color and monochrome printers with optimum quality. AFP Color Management is used to render a print file with color data consistently and accurately on both color and monochrome printers. • Device-independent grayscales: Since grayscale generation is based on the accurate definition of color, grayscales can be rendered consistently across different printers and printer families. • Customer-tunable grayscales: Customers can tune the output grayscale with host-based system-level resources that can be processed consistently by all 4100 printers. • Ability to create device-independent colorized AFP workflows that can be targeted to a color printer or to a 4100 printer without application-level changes. • When the AFP Color Emulation feature (#4850, 4851) is installed, AFP Color Management provides the ability to natively print TIFF, JPEG, GIF, IOCA FS11, and IOCA FS45 images in high-quality grayscale with the capacity to adjust image appearance (for example, highlight midtones) and image linescreening (lines per inch).

While AFP Color Management will normally be used to support image printing using the AFP Color Emulation feature, there are situations where the AFP Color Management may be used without the AFP Color Emulation feature. These include color management applied to text, graphics (GOCA), bi-level image (IOCA FS10), and bar code.

Support for AFP Color Management is standard on all InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1, TD1, and TD2 printers.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 5 Announcement 110-074 Color Management Resources (CMRs), which are part of the open, industry-standard TM TM AFP architecture called Color Management Object Content Architecture (CMOCA ), are used to carry this color management information.

CMRs carry all of the color management information needed to render a print file with color data consistently and accurately on both color and monochrome printers. Furthermore, CMRs provide the end user with system-level controls to fine-tune the output to meet their specific needs. This allows end users to get accurate and consistent colors on color printers, and accurate and consistent grayscales on 4100 printers. Furthermore, such device-independent print files can be archived with the assurance that the colors will be printed accurately on different color or monochrome printers in the future.

CMR support on the 4100 printers includes support for the following CMR types:

• Color Conversions (CC CMRs): These CMRs contain standard ICC profiles to define the colors in the print data and to support accurate conversions of the color data to grayscale data. • Tone Transfer Curves (TTC CMRs): These CMRs can be generated and specified by the end user to modify the grayscales that are rendered by the printer after the color-to-grayscale conversion. They can be generated for a specific printer, or they can request a generic output appearance, such as highlight midtones. • Halftones (HT CMRs): These CMRs contain the halftones that are to be applied to multi-bit data by the printer. They can be generated and specified by the end user to override the printer's standard halftones. Like Tone Transfer Curves, they can be generated for a specific printer, or they can request a generic output appearance, such as "106 lines per inch (lpi)."

3 Single-page PDF and EPS data objects are not supported on the InfoPrint 4100.

InfoPrint 4100 Online Access

The InfoPrint Controller provides the InfoPrint 4100 Online Access feature (printer Web pages). This no-charge feature provides remote access to printer Web pages by any authorized user within the enterprise network.

Highlights are:

• Productivity improvements: The printer Web pages allow users to monitor and assist with the printer operation without being at the printer console. Using functions provided by the Online Access feature, operators, administrators, and InfoPrint Solutions Company service personnel have capabilities to interact with the printer. Depending on their access authority, users can monitor printer status in real time, view printer configuration, view (and edit) Snapshots, view preventive maintenance logs, view error logs, send microcode updates, retrieve diagnostic traces, and view printer Help pages. • Access control: The Online Access feature can be controlled with multiple layers of security. Operator, administrator, and service access levels are provided for accessing the printer Web pages and may be enabled, disabled, and controlled using the printer console. The Restricted Access function may be used to limit which workstations have access to printer Web pages. A login history is maintained for audit purposes.

Universal Forms Control Sensor This feature is standard in all countries except Japan. This feature is optional in Japan because the standard splicing station and the standard internal stacker replace this feature. This feature provides a registration sensor that is moveable across the entire width of a form. The capability provided by this sensor is normally most useful in a tractorless (pinless) environment.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 6 Announcement 110-074 This sensor is also a look up/look down sensor that can read black marks on either side of the paper. It also allows items such as a customer logo (that are normally printed on a document) to be used as a registration mark.

When a modulated registration mark is printed by printer #1, this sensor eliminates the need for a separate bar code for side-2 verification.

Toner collector bag switch

This feature provides a sensor to detect when the toner collector bag is full. An operator alert message is sent to alert the operator to change the toner collector bag.

This positive detection of a full bag prevents the overfilling of the collection bag.

Lower tractor jam detection sensor

This feature provides a sensor that is installed prior to the transfer drum. This sensor looks across the width of the paper (in the scan direction) and can detect any "accordion" type irregularities in the paper. When these defects are sensed, the paper is stopped immediately.

Early detection prevents paper jams, as well as possible drum damage. The advantage is increased printer availability and decreased printer downtime for repair.

Remote Terminal Support

The Remote Terminal Support function allows the InfoPrint 4100 Operator Console to access InfoPrint Process Director (IPPD) or other systems that use 3270- or 5250- type terminals.

Enhanced cutsheet emulation

When two pages are printed side-by-side, this enhancement improves the ability to cut between the pages by:

• Moving both pages to increase the distance between pages. The right-hand page is moved to the right, and the left-hand page to the left. • Moving the right-hand page to the right while not moving the left-hand page.

Image Enhancement (#4430, 4431) The primary focus of this feature is for the print-on-demand market where premium image quality can be economically justified.

This feature is designed to achieve premium image quality on the InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1, TD1, and TD2 by providing following improvements:

• Enhanced fusing technology to minimize toner distortion • Developer unit optimized for high coverage and density applications • Improved halftones tailored to new hardware and toner technology

Please contact your local Sales Representative for paper weight and tractor/ tractorless feed limitations.

Either InfoPrint Manager for AIX V4.2 (with PTF U810787) or InfoPrint Manager for Windows V2.2 (with PTF UO00550) is required for this feature.

This feature must be ordered for both the TD1 and TD2 in a duplex configuration.

Customer Changeable Developer (CCD)

This solution allows customer operators to easily remove and install developer units.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 7 Announcement 110-074 Additional Customer Changeable Developer (#4487 - EPS Black)

These features provide additional developer units that can be installed by an operator to replace the developer unit initially shipped with an InfoPrint 4100 printer. Each Additional CCD is unique to one printer. For example, to have Additional CCDs for three printers requires that this feature be ordered for each of the three printers.

The Additional CCD feature consists of an operator-installable developer and one developer cart to carry the CCD provided by this feature.

When this feature is ordered, it may be necessary to order a Developer Cart (#4404). This extra Developer Cart is only needed once per print room to remove and store the CCD initially installed in the printer.

These features can be ordered with an InfoPrint 4100 printer, or installed in the field.

Developer Cart (#4404)

In addition to the Developer Cart shipped with the Additional CCD feature (#4487, 4481), one additional Developer Cart is required per print room for the removal of the CCD that was initially installed in the printer.

The developer carts are used so that the developer unit does not have to be lifted and carried by the operator. The cart attaches to the printer so that the developer unit can slide onto the cart when it is being switched. Likewise, the new developer unit can be easily slid off the cart and installed in the printer.

Developer carts can be used with any developer. Once a CCD has been installed in a printer, the cart that was shipped with the CCD can be used to remove a CCD from another printer. Developer units are unique to a given printer.

Enhanced toner loading

This feature allows the operator to add toner to the printer while it is operating. The operator is prompted by an operator console message that the toner supply is low. There is no need to stop printing in order to add additional toner.

Supplies

The supplies used by the InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1, TD1, and TD2 are listed in the Technical information section.

Tractored and Tractorless Forms Identification (#4581) This feature is an enhanced version of the previous forms ID feature (#4464).

Enhancements include:

• Both tractored and tractorless modes are supported. The previous feature only supported tractored. • Simplified configuration options, since this feature does not use a pre-/post- processing slot.

The Tractored and Tractorless Forms Identification feature ensures that the form required for a specific application, or print job, is actually the form loaded in the selected printer. The identification is performed by comparing a bar code on the form to the form defined in the print job.

The value of the Forms Identification feature includes increased operations performance and quality, reduced operations costs, and improved operations control.

This feature consists of a mark sensor, associated electronics, mounting brackets, and microcode, which are ordered and installed on a per-print-engine basis.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 8 Announcement 110-074 The Forms Identification feature reads a preprinted bar code as the form is moving through the printer. The form bar code is checked at two levels:

• First, it is checked at the host where the form bar code specified in the Define Form configuration is compared to the form defined by VFYSETUP. • Second, the bar code specified in the Define Form configuration is compared to the form number read from the preprinted bar code on the loaded form.

If the forms identification bar code specified in the Define Form configuration does not match the forms identification number specified by the VFYSETUP, then the host will not send the job to the printer. Therefore, the forms identification bar code specified in the Define Form configuration must match the forms identification number read from the loaded form or the printer is stopped with a form mismatch error.

The use of this feature requires that a bar code be preprinted on the forms. The bar code is a custom binary bar code that can represent up to 65,535 decimal form numbers. For those customers who are using alphanumeric form numbers, some restrictions do apply. The alpha characters are limited to A, B, C, D, E, and F; and the number is limited to four characters. When using the alpha characters for specifically assigned purposes, the form number is assumed to be hexadecimal. The translation from form number to bar code is directly from that four-character hexadecimal form number to the binary bar code. When using alpha characters in the form number, you must take care not to duplicate the decimal equivalent form number.

A specification describing the bar code, its position, and orientation is available in the latest Form Design Reference. Also, Professional Services can be contracted to produce the required artworks for you and your forms vendor, as well as assist you in FORMDEF updates.

In a duplex system, if only printing duplex print jobs, only one feature is necessary and it must be ordered and installed in print engine 1.

If a duplex system is also being used in the dual-simplex mode, and forms identification is required, then two features, one feature for print engine 1 and one feature for print engine 2, must be ordered and installed.

Signature Page (#4553, 4554)

This is an optional feature that extends the maximum forms length to 54 inches.

This feature requires the TD2 p5 55A performance upgrade (#4664)

Integrated 10/100/1000 BaseT (Gigabit Ethernet) port in Controller

A 10/100/1000 BaseT or Gigabit Ethernet port, integrated into the control unit, is standard in the TS1 and TD2 processors (#9644, 9645).

This Ethernet port can be used for functions such as print data, SNMP, and such features as InfoPrint Manager Operations on the Controller (#4560) or the Productivity Tracking Feature (#4565) for true two-way communication.

If other Ethernet attachments are ordered, such as a Gigabit Ethernet TX feature, one of these Ethernet ports can be enabled for the purpose of receiving print data.

Attachment features

There are two card slots in the printer controller on the Models TS1 and TD2 for additional adapters (in addition to the Integrated Ethernet adapter described above).

On the Models TS1 and TD2, the two adapters can be any combination of supported adapters.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 9 Announcement 110-074 The optional adapters for the processors for the InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1 and TD2 are:

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 14 Announcement 110-074 Paper Weight and Paper Types

The InfoPrint 4100 printing system is designed to print on roll-feed paper. One key factors in achieving optimum print quality is the quality of the paper used.

InfoPrint Marketing personnel can provide information concerning the paper types and paper weights that will provide the best print quality on the InfoPrint 4100.

Print Quality Enhancement

The InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1, TD1, and TD2 have InfoPrint Solutions Company exclusive Digital Print Quality Enhancement (PQE) that consists of edge smoothing, fine fidelity protection, and boldness control. This Digital PQE produces fine edge smoothing and sharp characters.

Edge smoothing is the reduction of the "stair-stepping" appearance of diagonal lines.

Fine fidelity protection preserves the fine details in the print, and consists of avoiding the fill-in of single-pel white areas to be developed. This is the greatest benefit in the reproduction of font serifs and the preservation of the details of narrow intersections of lines.

The boldness control is independent of the settings of machine parameters. Therefore, parameters can be adjusted to compensate for other changing conditions within a printer without affecting the boldness. This allows for bolder-looking print without using extra toner and for darker solid areas without filling in the fine white details.

Print contrast control allows the operator to adjust print darkness. Achieving print quality is dependent upon paper quality.

Tall Buffer/Flipper Unit (#9407 - Initial, #4407 - MES)

A buffer/flipper unit is used to guide the paper from the first printer to the second printer in a dual-printer configuration. The Tall Buffer/Flipper Unit is required on all TD1 and TD2 configurations.

This buffer/flipper allows the forms to pass from the first engine (TD1) to the (TD2) while being flipped so that each engine prints on a different side of the form. The Tall Buffer/ Flipper can be specified with an TD1 initial order or added as an MES feature.

Pre/Post-Processing Interface (#4710)

One pre/post-processing interface is standard on each model of the InfoPrint 4100 printing system.

This feature provides the electrical interface for attachment of OEM pre- and post- processing equipment to the InfoPrint 4100. This is the same feature that currently exists on other InfoPrint 4000 and 4100 printers.

The pre- and post-processing interface feature provides control of add-on pre- and post-processing devices (such as continuous forms stackers, envelope inserting equipment, roll-feed equipment, and others).

In the InfoPrint 4100 Models TS1, TD1, and TD2 up to two pre- and post-processing interfaces (#4710) in addition to the standard pre- and post-processing interface, may be ordered.

The need for one or more of these features is totally dependent on the post- processing equipment used with the printer. Coordination with the selected post- processing vendor is recommended when planning for the appropriate features.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 15 Announcement 110-074 Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Bar Codes

The InfoPrint 4100 printing system can be used to print OCR and bar code documents when attached to host environments. The InfoPrint Controller supports TM TM Bar Code Object Content Architecture (BCOCA ), which enables the printing of bar codes without special bar code fonts. The OCR and bar codes produced by the InfoPrint 4100 are designed to meet OCR and bar code printing standards. However, because of the variability of OCR readers and bar code scanners, InfoPrint Solutions Company advises that customers evaluate the InfoPrint 4100's OCR and bar code output in their application environment. The InfoPrint 4100 supports Postal Bar Codes (requires local certification by USPS). Refer to the Forms Design Reference for Continuous Forms Printers (G544-3921) for more detailed OCR and bar code information. The InfoPrint 4100 printing system supports the following one- dimensional BCOCA bar code symbologies:

(3-of-9 Code), AIM USS-39 • MSI (modified code) • UPC/CGPC -- Version A • UPC/CGPC -- Version E • UPC -- Two-digit Supplemental (Periodicals) • UPC -- Five-digit Supplemental (Paperbacks) • EAN-8 (includes JAN-short) • EAN-13 (includes JAN-standard) • Industrial 2-of-5 • Matrix 2-of-5 • Interleaved 2-of-5, AIM USS-I 2/5 • , 2-of-7, AIM USS-Codabar • , AIM USS-128 • EAN Two-digit Supplemental • EAN Five-digit Supplemental • POSTNET • Postal Bar Code (RM4SCC) • Japan Postal Bar Code • • PLANET • Dutch KIX • Australia Post • Intelligent Mail (also known as USPS Four-State)

The InfoPrint 4100 printing systems support the following two-dimensional bar code symbologies:

• QR Code • MaxiCode • PDF-417 •

InfoPrint Controller Description/Function

The InfoPrint 4100 InfoPrint Controller contains the control, attachment, and operator interface hardware and microcode. Major hardware components include a processor, a Mechanism Interface Card (MIC), a Print Quality Enhancement Card (PQE), and the Enhanced Operator Console.

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 16 Announcement 110-074 The MIC is attached to the processor via Fiber Channel cables, and is used to interface the print engine, operator panel, and pre- and post-processing interfaces. The operator console and host attachments are attached directly to the processor.

The operator console consists of a color flat-panel touchscreen display and various input devices including the touchscreen, keyboard, and mouse.

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Support

The InfoPrint 4100 supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Base (MIB) for printers (RFC 1759). All mandatory groups in the printer MIB and required portions on MIB II (RFC 1213) and the Host Resources MIB (RFC 1514) are supported.

SNMP is used by InfoPrint Workflow offerings, InfoPrint Manager, and InfoPrint Server for z/OS to monitor printers and to provide information on printer status.

Some examples of the printer status and information that can be monitored using SNMP are online/offline, idle/printing, errors such as out of toner, paper jam, out of paper, printer configuration, capacity, and number of pages printed.

Page positioning function: Basic N-up page positioning

With basic N-up page positioning, you can print up to four pages in partitions on each side of a form, which enables you to print much more data on a form, saving printer-usage costs, paper, and storage space. For example with 3-up, three pages can be printed in partitions on the front side and, if duplexing, another three pages can be printed in partitions on the back side.

Enhanced N-up page positioning

With enhanced N-up page positioning, you can place up to eight pages at any location on a form, in any supported orientation and position (partitions are not used and pages can even overlap each other). For example, three pages can be placed on the front side and five pages on the back side; for a more extreme example, all eight pages can be placed on the back side with nothing on the front side.

Cut Sheet Emulation (CSE)

CSE is an option on the printer console that automatically invokes an Enhanced N-up arrangement to emulate two side-by-side sheets of cut paper. Duplex jobs print page 2 on the back of page 1 and page 4 on the back of page 3. CSE provides for different page arrangements to accommodate different post-processing requirements. Pages can be placed sequentially from left to right or right to left, and TM right side up or upside down. CSE requires Print Services Facility (PSF) support. The console option for CSE has no effect unless the printer has PSF that supports CSE.

When the CSE option is enabled, all jobs sent to the printer print 2-up, side-by-side except when:

• N-up page positioning is specified in the form definition. In this case, the N-up specification is used and CSE is ignored. • The PSF print driver enables page-size verification and disables CSE for pages that do not fit 2-up.

CSE can now be preset in the Assign Form Definition. Now when a form definition is assigned CSE, the correct CSE orientation is automatically set, reducing setup time and eliminating CSE setup error.

Options for multiple-up printing

With the addition of CSE, you now have several options for formatting multiple-up application pages on a single printer sheet:

InfoPrint Solutions Company United States Hardware InfoPrint is a registered trademark of Ricoh Co., Ltd. 17 Announcement 110-074 • Multiple-up defined in the page definition resource • N-up defined in the form definition resource • CSE selected at the Operator Console

Applications printing simple line data that use the same formatting for each page can easily be handled with traditional multiple-up. They can be handled as well by N-up Page Positioning and CSE if they do not require more than four pages for N-up, or more than two for CSE on printers that support N-up and CSE.

CSE can be used whenever the desired output is two pages of equal size, side by side on the same sheet. CSE is especially useful for moving applications for 8.5 x 11 in. forms to 2-up printing 11 x 17 in. forms. No change is required to the AFP form definition resource to enable CSE 2-up printing. The same form definition can be used for printing 1-up on 8.5 x 11 in. forms or 2-up on 11 x 17 in. forms.

N-up page positioning is needed for applications that require pages of different sizes or page positioning other than 2-up side by side. Instructions must be placed in the form definition for N-up printing.

Font capability The InfoPrint 4100 supports outline fonts for both double-byte (DBCS) and single-byte (SBCS) character sets. Since outline fonts are scalable and resolution independent, the same fonts can be used for printing at any point size and at either 480 dpi or 600 dpi in any of the four supported print rotations. A wide range of outline font type styles in a variety of language families are also available as resident fonts on the printers hard disk. Outline fonts can be downloaded to the printer from PSF libraries.

Raster pattern fonts at 240 dpi and 300 dpi are supported in SBCS and DBCS formats when printing with either 480 dpi or 600 dpi resolution, respectively. However, for best character appearance, raster pattern fonts at 240 dpi are best supported when printing in 480 dpi resolution and 300 dpi raster fonts are best supported when printing in 600 dpi resolution.

Raster fonts must be downloaded from PSF host libraries in the resolution and size required for printing. Font sizes from 4 to 72 points (approximately one inch high) are supported. You must verify the legibility of the 4-point font sets in their applications. Only one copy of a font is required for all four font rotations in the printer. The font is oriented for printing at print time.

Raster fonts are supported by all supported PSF platforms. Printer-resident outline fonts are supported by the latest maintenance levels of all PSFs relevant to the InfoPrint 4100. Host-downloaded outline fonts are supported by all supported PSF and InfoPrint platforms.

• Interchange Resident Outline Fonts The outline fonts listed below are provided on the hard drive on the InfoPrint Controller. Courier Roman medium 12 pitch (10 point) is the printer default.

Human factors The InfoPrint 4100 is designed for efficient ease of operation, service, and installation. Accepted human factors principles have been applied specifically to frequent access areas such as automatic paper threading and the operator interfaces. The operator flat-panel touchscreen, redesigned GUI, and associated keyboard and mouse are intended to improve and enhance the human interface with the printing system.

Environment impact assessment information • Volatile organic compounds emitted from the InfoPrint 4100 pose no health concern either singularly or collectively at various toner coverages tested. • The InfoPrint 4100's toner and developer mix does not present environmental problems provided the same care is taken with the mix as with other electrophotographic materials of a similar nature. • The toner collected in the toner waste bottle and fine filter poses no health and environmental problems, provided the same care is taken with the bottle and the filter as with other similar electrophotographic materials. • The selenium carryout with used brushes poses no disposal problems as per the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. The used brushes can be placed in the normal trash to be disposed of in the local landfill. • The photoconductor drum data obtained to date reveals no concerns to the environment. A drum return plan has been implemented to ensure the used drums are returned to the manufacturer. • The dermal and hypersensitivity tests of the toner reveal no health concerns. These studies were conducted utilizing (or implementing) the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) good laboratory practices regulations.

Print-to-perforation capability The InfoPrint 4100 is designed to print to the perforation without degrading speed. As with other print-to-perforation printers, print quality degradation will occur near the perforation with fanfold paper that "tents" (that is, retains a "memory" of the fold). There will be no degradation at distances from the perforation of 1/3 in. (8.5 mm) for character data, and 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) for solid area fill, logos, or images. With a roll-feed paper input, no change in print quality should be apparent up to 2 mm of the perforation.

Operator controls

The display and operator input functions of the InfoPrint 4100 are provided via touchscreen console. A keyboard and mouse are also provided to assist the operator with input functions. The flat-panel touchscreen, keyboard, and mouse are the primary interface utilized by both operator and customer engineer. The graphic user interface (GUI) provides simple buttons and functions for all capabilities. Special emphasis has been placed on reducing the number of menus and number of clicks that an operator must go through in order to perform a task.
