God’s Purpose and Plan for your life – Sis Tamara Vaughan

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

What is God’s purpose and plan for our life? There is a purpose and a plan for our lives. It is what is in your heart. It is the only thing that satisfies you. It is what you are passionate about. It is what you were born to do. If what you are doing is not working for you, then maybe it is not God’s plan for your life.

Through God and through his word, you can fulfill your life’s purpose. It is what is in you and God has placed it there. A Moment for the Single Mother….-Sis. Keisha H Williams Real Talk

It was during my career as a Correctional Officer, that I first heard the expression, “I’m going to need that early!” I soon learned it was slang used amongst the prison population to articulate a number of things, but more often than not; it was a request for immediate assistance.

That expression was called to memory, as I was reading Psalm 46:5, which reads, “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God shall help her and that, right early.” (emphasis mine) I re-read that verse twice and smiled, thinking how awesome God is and how well He knows me. As my relationship in God has grown, with increased prayer and daily time spent reading and studying the Word of God, my communication with Him has improved; I used to wonder, how I would know if/when God speaks to me and am always amazed at the methods He uses to talk to me. I’ve told friends, my prayer life is a real conversation with God; sometimes, I find myself trying to negotiate with Him or questioning His will – I talk to Him just as I would talk to my parent, a respected family member or a close friend; our conversations are real and He responds to me in the same manner. When God talks with me, it’s always in a “voice” I recognize, as the Word of God tells us, “My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they will follow me.” (John 10:27) Which is why I was not surprised when my focus was drawn to the word, “early”; I knew God was telling me, not only is He totally involved in every situation or circumstance in my life – He is able to deliver me from it, early.

How great is it to serve a God who already knows what we’ve yet to begin to understand? Not only does He already know, He has already worked it out – and worked it out to our benefit! I encourage you to continue to take a few minutes each day and talk to God; your conversation should be as simple as the hymn sang by the older saints of God, “Have a little talk with Jesus, and tell Him all about your problems…” It’s that simple. God does not want you to be intimidated or afraid to talk to Him nor is He looking for your most elegant words; He wants you to be yourself – after all, who knows you, better than God? Talk with Him, as honestly and open as you want your children to talk with you and He will respond in a voice specifically designed for you. Be encouraged!

SHILOH’S USHER BOARD – Mother Connie Jenkins

It is an honor to be a church usher and is a service rendered to God. What is done is done not “as unto men but unto God”. Col. 3:23.

Shiloh Senior and Youth ushers are a group of dedicated, committed members who make up Shiloh C.O.G.I.C. Usher Board. They are faithful servants who serve in Shiloh as well as The Harrisburg District and The Commonwealth of PA.

Shiloh Usher Board officers are Mother Connie Jenkins – President, Sis. Irene Gillis – Vice President, Sis. Janet Hill, Secretary, John Jenkins – Treasurer.

There are five usher groups, one group to serve each Sunday of the month. Each group has a Head Usher, an Assistant and other ushers that make up a group. For special services ushers volunteer and are assigned on a rotating schedule. All ushers receive verbal instructions, practice sessions and on the job training before rendering service.

Ushers represent the church. They are door keepers in the house of God. “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my god, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” 84:10.

The first person the worshipers come in contact with when entering the sanctuary is the usher. Ushers greet, meet, seat and help. Ushers render a service to the church by extending kindness and showing courtesy to all. Ushers promote and maintain an atmosphere of reverence and order during the worship service. Reverence is shown during the service by not talking or walking during the reading of God’s word, (scripture reading) or when prayer is going forth, (Invocation). Order is shown by not running or playing in God’s house. “Enter in silence, worship in Reverence” If unsure of church protocol, church etiquette, or any questions or concerns you may have, the ushers are there to guide and assist you. Ushers are also trained to be alert and assist with problems and or emergencies that may arise. We want to help make the worship service a blessed fruitful experience for all.

Praise be to God, prayers are answered. We thank God for our new male ushers. Welcome brother Rick Saunders and brother Abel Udigwe.

To our Senior ushers, thank you, thank you for your dedication and support down through the years. May God continue to bless and keep you.

A special thank you to our Youth ushers. You are so eager and faithful, you make us proud. God bless you as you continue to serve in God’s vineyard.

Healthy Tips – Quite Interesting Indeed! – Sis Bernie Gillis

It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish, all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. These are best & more powerful when eaten raw.

God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body! God's Pharmacy! Amazing!

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye... And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopene and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also a profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuron- transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. How profound is this? It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body's cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Summer Days – Lucinda Potter

On July,1994, a little bundle of joy came into our family. My grandson Khairi Potter. No he is not the only one but he is the subject of discussion. My summer really began on January 16, 2012, when the oldest granddaughter performed at her school, Susquehanna High in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. performing arts showcase. Anticipation and excitement began to fill the air. The kids said “Mom are you going”? Ijada is going to sing. I thought what in the world. Ijada doesn’t even talk loud enough for you to understand her sometimes. I said lord, what is going on. I attended the showcase. There was so much talent from the other participants. I said to myself, I hope she is as good as the rest of the participants. Well, she performed. When they called her name, I didn’t see Ijada. Well, she started singing from the side wing of the stage then the spot light was placed on her. I didn’t even recognize her. She was all dolled up and had on a long wig. She began to sing, “something got a hold of me”. She belted it out. We were all shocked and proud of her.

During Mother’s Day, the family took me to dinner at Seafood Bass Restaurant across the river. I had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed the beautiful view.

Graduation time approached. My grandson was coming out of school. Wow! This can’t be. All the mornings of making sure he got on his way to school are over. He graduated from McDevitt on May 24, 2012. He was an honor student. We just told him to do his best and if he had any problems, especially with trigonometry, he was to seek help or we would get someone to help him. Well I waited for this request from him and it never came. My constant prayer was Lord bless all the grandchildren. Lord I thank you. The Lord was blessing him. I started noticing his character. It was one of an older person, you know how folks say, like he’s been here before? He was on the track and field team, the French club, he had good attendance and he received several certificates of appreciation.

We never had a problem with him walking around with his pants down showing his underwear or staying out late. If his mother told him to be back at a certain time, he was back in that time frame.

The school incorporated prayer into their academics. They did everything on time and in order. We received notice that they were going to have a baccalaureate service at The Holy Name of Jesus Christ Church. I had never attended one and I didn’t know what to expect. This is a prayer service for all of the graduates. I know there were over 1,000 people in attendance. The church was beautiful and spacious. The clergy had on beautiful robes, speaking in Latin and English, blessing the class of 2012. It reminded me of almost being in the Vatican, in Rome, but we were in Harrisburg, PA. There was an assortment of music and an aria of hymns playing. They offered to all of the people in attendance, if they wanted to participate. No collection plate was circulated. I had joy and hope for all of the students. A few days later our son graduated at the ninety-first commencement service at the Harrisburg forum. He took one step when they called his name to walk across the stage to receive his diploma and his uncle could be heard all over the building. The family was here to support and cheer him on.

The month of June, my granddaughter Ijada graduated. The family attended the service. Also, the next month we gave my grandson a little graduation get together just with friends and family, then, it was his birthday and we had a small celebration. We had to travel to a few colleges. We made each trip safe and sound and again the Lord blessed us with his traveling mercy.

Well, my grandson went onto further his education at Bloomsburg University. I back all of the above up with the word of God Psalm 103:17 but the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children to such as keep his covenant and to those that remember his commandments to do them. Psalm 34 the eyes of the lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry. That’s my prayer, calling out to God. Proverbs 22:6 train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Yes, we are Godly proud of Khairi Potter.
