Our visitors have made some high profile signings and are, rightly, favourites to win the competition. Hopefully we will take the field with ^W4 afull strength squad before abig and noisy crowd for what promises to be aterrific tussle. To date we feel our performances have been very professional and we ground out areally good result at Workington. Considering the signings Town have made, together with an excellent opening win over Rochdale we were very pleased % i to dent their aim of going all season unbeaten at % home. Agood few Cumbrians were well sick at the result Ican tell you! Our pack laid the foundations with adominating performance and newcomer Paul Norton was outstanding, displaying the work rate and toughness he had shown at Lancashire Lynx and which had drawn our attention to him. At this stage of the season nothing much has taken shape, but it is pleasing to see Swinton and Sheffield getting some results to put themselves up with the favourites. It serves as awarning to us not to underestimate anyone and not to let our guard slip. Obviously we are disappointed to lose Shayne McMenemy to Halifax Blue Sox, but it was always possible aSuper League club would come in for him and he leaves with our blessing and our thanks for his contribution to the Oldham cause, which has been magnificent. Meanwhile we are pleased to welcome out latest signing Danny Arnold. Ihope you have enjoyed aMerry Christmas and wish you all avery Happy New Year. My Lifestory by Audrey Pettigrew Family Life I was born on 21st August 1932 at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester. 2 The only photo taken of me as a baby is the one below, when I was 12 months old. Before I was born my mother gave birth to unnamed, stillborn, twin boys. 3 My mother was Margaret Evans and my father was Arthur Gregory. My dad served in World War I. A soldier’s tin hat, WWI Dad when he was in the army 4 After the war he became an engineer at Platts, Oldham. The headquarters of Platts 5 As a young woman my mum worked in cotton mills. Later she went into Service working for a family of Dutch Jews, who had fled to the U.K. to escape the Nazis in their homeland. The holocaust badge. The word Jew is written in Dutch. 6 The Dutch family became very instrumental in my upbringing, and became lifelong friends. Mum would take me to work with her where I met Jan, a Dutch boy. As youngsters we played happily together, and in our teens we spent many happy times in Holland. 7 I lived in Cranberry Street, Glodwick, Oldham, quite a poor neighbourhood. I lived in a two up two down terraced house with no bathroom. When I was 8 years old in 1940, I witnessed a bomb exploding in my street and destroying houses and the local pub, the Cranberry Inn. 8 My mother had several sisters who lived nearby. I affectionately knew them as the “old aunts” and they took turns at looking after me, whilst my mother worked.

  • Push the Boundary Email: [email protected]
Push The Boundary Email: [email protected] 6 November 2019 Dear Abdallah We are writing to you on behalf of those Oldham Athletic supporters who have concerns about the future of our foot- ball club and in particular those listed at the end of this letter. “Push the Boundary” is a group of supporters who have common concerns that our football club is being run in a way that is contra to its best interests. The group has been founded by four supporters but we believe has the support of a large proportion of the fan base. Following the release of our independent group, signatures supporting this letter to you, have risen to 596 in the space of a week. This clearly shows the level of dissatisfaction and disconnect that sup- porters currently feel, at the current state of our beloved Oldham Athletic Football Club. The purpose of this letter is to express our specific concerns about the direction that Oldham Athletic appears to be taking under the current Board of Directors. We fully appreciate the state that the football club was in at the time that you were in negotiations with the previous owner and that these issues stretch back several years. It is far from ideal that Oldham Athletic Football Club no longer owns Boundary Park or the land upon which the ground is located. This will always hugely impact upon the amount of revenue that the club is able to generate. It was also apparent to most supporters that the club was on the brink of insolvency prior to your purchase.

  • The Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy
The Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy The Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy is a Charity Amateur Rugby League Match held in memoriam of Private Thomas Sephton. Tom was an Infantry Soldier in The Mortar Platoon, The 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Cheshire) – 1 MERCIAN. Tragically Tom died in July 2010 as a result of the wounds he received in Afghanistan on Operation Herrick 12. Tom came from Penketh, Warrington and was an outstanding sportsman. For many years he played rugby for Crosfields Amateur Rugby League Football Club. At 18 Tom joined the army and went on to represent his Battalion where his skills and bravery on the rugby field drew admiration from all. It has been said of him that, “He was never one to shy away from any situation and put his body on the line for the team. He tackled well above his weight and was a pleasure to be with both on and off the pitch, a young man of honour with a wry sense of humor and a sharp wit, a man with courage that belied his stature and loyalty beyond measure”. Tom was a key and influential part of the 2006 Crosfields ARLFC Under 16‟s squad that swept all before them, winning the Under 16‟s North-West Counties League Championship and reaching the National Cup Semi-Final. From this squad an impressive number of Toms‟ team mates have gone on to achieve great things in their young rugby careers, playing professional Rugby League with Superleague clubs, Warrington Wolves, Saint Helens, Salford City Reds and Widnes Vikings.

  • Players Register A-Z 1895-2016
WAKEFIELD TRINITY RLFC PLAYERS REGISTER A-Z 1895-2016 HERITAGE NUMBERS … The Story Initial Ideas Our initial ideas for the heritage numbers came about a couple of years ago (approx. 2012), after seeing the success of Queensland in Australia, with Warrington being the first English club to follow suit. Next Step Tremendous work had been carried out by a group of rugby league historians in the 1970s (RL Record Keepers’ Club) who pooled their knowledge, and attempted to record every game in the first one hundred years of rugby league (1895-1994). Trinity’s were completed and fortunately we acquired the records to every Trinity game, and players, since 1895 The First 100 Years The teams for the first one hundred years of Trinity’s rugby league days (1895-1994) were recorded and each new player to make his debut noted. On the very first game there were fifteen (numbers 1-15) and each debutant after this was given the subsequent number, in position order (full back, winger, centre etc.). This was checked, double-checked and triple checked. By 1994 we had found 1,060 names. The Next 20 Years … Part 1 The next twenty years, to the modern day, were a little more difficult but we researched the Trinity playing records through the excellent ‘Rothman’s Year Books’ written by the late Raymond Fletcher and David Howes. These books started in 1981 and finished in 1999. Again, each debutant was given the next heritage number The Next 20 Years … Part 2 After the ‘Rothmans’ books ceased publication we used the yearbooks published by ‘League Weekly’, which also noted every new player, signed throughout the season.
