Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings added, “Last night we saw things take a turn for the worst.” A total of 31 people were arrested in connec- tion with the Sunday protest. Five were arrested in the first protest May 27 that shut down part of Union Avenue in Midtown and another eight were arrested before dawn Sunday morning at Main and Beale, two hours after a Saturday evening protest Downtown — for a total of 44 arrests. Over the 48 hours of the weekend, 10 businesses were vandalized, three police cars were vandalized and three incidents occurred where officers were shot at, according to Rallings. Businesses damaged during Sunday’s protest included Winfield’s Shoes & Accessories on the Main Street Mall along with a nearby Walgreens downtown and Flight Restaurant, also on the mall. All of the businesses had windows smashed dur- ing the protest. “This is unacceptable and it will not be toler- ated,” Rallings said. The charges have mostly been disorderly con- duct and obstruction of a passageway or highway. Two incidents during the arrests are being in- vestigated by the police department for possible use of excessive force. “I need everybody to understand if police move in to make arrests and an individual does not obey an order to disperse — the arrest is never going to be pretty,” Rallings said. “If you take two incidents Memphis Police officers in riot gear try to clear the streets Downtown during a protest over the death of George Floyd June 1, or a handful and paint that as a picture of the en- 2020. Archetypal Ballers and Ternary Plots A look at the 2018 WNBA season M. Edward (Ed) Borasky https://znmeb.github.io/dfstools/ June 8, 2019 M. Edward (Ed) Borasky (https://znmeb.github.io/dfstools/)Archetypal Ballers and Ternary Plots June 8, 2019 1/1 Archetypal analysis (Eugster and Leisch 2009) Goal: I Dimensionality reduction I Reduce a dataset with 17 box score metrics to three archetypes I Represent players’ skills in terms of the archetypes Inputs: I Player box scores for the 2018 WNBA season I About 160 players Outputs: I Archetype table I Player table M. Edward (Ed) Borasky (https://znmeb.github.io/dfstools/)Archetypal Ballers and Ternary Plots June 8, 2019 2/1 The three archetypes Each archetype represents a skill set I Floor Spacing (Shea 2014, chap. 5): skills for a backcourt player (Guard) dominated by three-point shooting I Rim Protection (Shea 2014, chap. 6): skills for a frontcourt player (Center, Forward) dominated by rebounding I Bench: the “bad” archetype - players with low overall skills the best players have a “Bench” value near zero M. Edward (Ed) Borasky (https://znmeb.github.io/dfstools/)Archetypal Ballers and Ternary Plots June 8, 2019 3/1 The archetype table Rows are archetypes, columns are box score metrics Metrics can be raw or scaled For this analysis I used raw metrics - season totals M.
