Magically Transport to the Place Where Toys Get Well and Kids Have Fun in Doc Mcstuffins: the Exhibit Opening at Liberty Science Center Oct 6 MEDIA CONTACT Mary Meluso 201.253.1335 | [email protected] Magically Transport to the Place Where Toys Get Well and Kids Have Fun in Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit Opening at Liberty Science Center Oct 6 JERSEY CITY, N.J., September 25, 2018 – Kids can put on a doctor’s jacket, pick up a stethoscope, and perform toy check-ups at Liberty Science Center this fall in the first-ever museum exhibit based on Disney Junior’s Peabody Award-winning television series, Doc McStuffins. Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit debuts at the Science Center on October 6, 2018. The highly interactive English and Spanish bilingual experience will transport kids and families from LSC to Doc’s backyard clinic and the McStuffins Toy Hospital. There, families are invited to help Doc perform check-ups and diagnose toy patients while learning about healthy habits, compassion, and nurturing care. The exhibit invites visitors to: • Bring out their inner doctor by giving toys a check-up in the emergency room; • Team up with Lambie, Doc’s assistant and cuddly best friend, in the nursery to take care of babies, and with Hallie, the caring hippo nurse, in the Operating Room; • Visit the Pet Vet to wash, brush, and X-ray toy animals; • And so much more! “Doc McStuffins serves as a great role model encouraging children to explore the importance of taking care of their own bodies as well as caring for others,” said Paul Hoffman, President and CEO of Liberty Science Center. “Through the exhibit’s imaginative play, we hope our youngest visitors will learn more about health, science, and medicine while envisioning themselves in STEM-related careers.” Doc McStuffins: The Exhibit will be at Liberty Science Center from October 6, 2018, through January 27, 2019. Tickets cost $22.75 for adults and $18.75 for children. Please visit lsc.org for more information. This exhibit was produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and Disney Junior and presented by Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. • A Content Analysis of the Doc Mcstuffin Show
THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATION AND HEALTH 2013 / No. 1 How Healthy is the Doc? A content analysis Of the Doc McStuffin show Lisa Grace-Leitch City of New York University Borough of Manhattan Community College [email protected] Charlene Foster Long Island University-Post Campus Abstract This study sought to determine and quantify what if any healthy behavioral cue exists in preschool shows. Past research has shown that unhealthy behaviors developed in early childhood are strongly associated with health- related problems later in life. It has also shown that establishing behaviors that promote and maintain health during early childhood is very important. Bandura’s Social Leaning Theory states that people learn by observing behaviors and attitudes modeled by others. Modeling is often used as a behavioral guide among young children. A larger study used Common Sense Media and Parent Magazine as a guide, to determine the highest rated pre-schools show.A content analysis was conducted of the top five preschool shows found on the Disney, Nickelodeon and PBS networks. The shows were assessed to determine if there were cues linked to health behaviors and whether the cues were positive or negative. This article focuses on the results of the content analysis of theDoc McStuffin television show. The results showed thatthere were cues to healthy behaviors in every Doc McStuffin episode analyzed. The data showed that due to the format of the show, physical fitness cues were found in 100% of the episodes while only 65% of the episodes analyzed had nutritional cues. The cues were not all positive; some episodes had cues to negative behaviors.
