Film poster news from:

January has been very busy for us and we have been acquiring poster collections from cinema owners, most recently we have bought a very nice Art house collection of rolled posters from Cornwall including many BFI film posters soon to be added on the website...

We also bought a collection of 80's film posters which we have been adding on from the Astor cinema in Devon. Title include Star Wars Return of the Jedi, The Goonies, and many other classic eighties film posters.

HERITAGE MOVIE POSTERS SIGNATURE AUCTION - DALLAS #7125 MARCH 26-27, 2016

Heritage Auction will hold its Movie Poster Signature Auction on March 26- 27. 2016. Bidding will begin approximately March 4th. Full preview will begin March 23-26, 2016 at Heritage Auctions, 3500 Maple Avenue, Dallas, TX 75219.

The “Force” was strong at Ewbank’s recent vintage poster auction held on February 12, 2016. The 1985 classic Back To The Future also performed well.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, (1980) British Quad film poster, untrimmed, featuring "Gone with the Wind" style featuring Roger Kastel`s artwork, reached a hammer price of £3,000, significantly exceeding its estimated price of £800 - £1,200.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back (1980) British Quad film poster, artwork by Drew Struzan, auctioned for £420, beating its £150 - £250 estimate.

Star Wars (1977) Original Swedish Scandecor poster featuring Darth Vader sold for £120, doubling its estimate.

Movie posters from the popular Back to the Future also performed well, exceeding project hammer prices.

Back To The Future (1985) Unused Concept One Sheet film poster, showing Marty (Michael J. Fox) being thrown back to the 1950's, with interesting artwork showing the DeLorean in the background, sold for £700, almost doubling its initial estimate of £200 - £400.

Back To The Future (1985) British Quad film poster, starring Michael J. Fox & Christopher Lloyd, sold for £200, exceeding its £100 - £150 estimate.

Back To The Future (1985) Advance British Quad film poster 'Coming Early December” sold for £260, well over the £120 - £180.

Back To The Future (1985) Advance British Quad film poster, oversized printer's proof version hammered at £300, beating the projected price £150 - £250.

We have been asked to speak at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention at the Hunt Valley Wyndham, Hunt Valley, Maryland. We will have an hour-long Powerpoint presentation on production codes and how to use them to identify unknown film press stills.

We will also have a table in the dealer’s room where we will be selling our LAMP books.

Meet the Artists

Dear Friends,

Backingtothefuture now has two artists carrying out the restoration work on your posters.

Tanya Petruk (right) has been linen backing and restoring posters for nearly two years now. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Alberta. When not restoring posters Tanya paints active people and athletes, capturing the emotion and passion for sport in her work.

Cathy Mills (right) was a decorative painter working on several high profile projects such as Casa Loma and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Afterwards, she transferred her creative skills to fine art using a variety of fabrics and papers. Cathy is primarily self-taught, but also pursued studies at Toronto School of Art and various workshops with many acclaimed artists.

As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we are beginning to sell linen backed, restored and frame ready posters. Here is the list of the posters currently for sale:
