KAIZEN! In Partnership with the Pan Atlantic University, Business School/ First Bank Sustainability Center & The Enterprise Development Center.

WELCOME The Uturn Africa Pre-Forum Young Leaders Convergence on Sustaina- bility and Pre-Forum SME Convergence on Sustainability have emerged with the understanding that only Sustainable Leaders are capable of providing the most appropriate solutions to the present problems of African societies. Uturn Africa provides a platform for debate, analysis and collaboration between current and future leaders interested in dis- cussing sustainable solutions to the regions challenges with innovative lens. Only innovation and creativity will ensure workable, stable and realistic solutions to Africa’s contemporary issues. By facilitating dialo- gue, we expect to map the emerging trends of sustainable innovative solutions and the type of required to deal with issues related to sustainable development.

Each sector needs Sustainable Leaders. Only through the power of collective dia- CO-FOUNDER, UTURN AFRICA DOYIN OLUNTONA logue can we envisage and determine the kind of best practices that should exist in each sector. These dialogues are essential to ensure the development of Sustainable Leadership with highly-skilled, right thin- king individuals leading the transforma- tional movement on the African continent. In our perspective, sustainability is at the core of social, economic, environmental and political issues facing Africa today. The Uturn Africa Pre-Forum Youth Con- vergence on Sustainability & Pre-Forum SME Convergence on Sustainability are one of those few multidimensional plat- forms, which connects stakeholders from key sectors in the sustainability discourse.

2 Breaking boundaries KAIZEN! Through Audacious Ambition!

The pace of economic growth and social change in Africa surprises even those of us who have been in- volved in the continent for several decades. It amazes me to see how much things have changed in the short space of ten years and how fast the rate of change is speeding up: momentous changes in social and physical infrastructure, constant opening up of new opportunities, accelerating influx of new players… In the midst of this whirlwind of

change, we just cannot afford to keep approaching CSR in the traditional way. We have to act in a far more strategic and impact-focused way and all of us need to realize that effective networks are at the core of this new way of acting. A key requirement is interacting regularly with other experienced players in government, industry, academia and civil society to formulate new strate- gies, forge effective alliances, and find answer to the new problems and opportunities facing us. Uturn Africa is firmly positioned as the leading organization in helping players in the CSR space to interact, understand each other and establish relationships. Having organized very successful stakeholder fora since 2009, it has accumulated the knowledge, experience and close rela- tionships with the key players in this space that are needed to facilitate effectively the required dialogues. I am greatly pleased that Pan-Atlantic University, through the First Bank Sustainability Centre of the Lagos Business School, is co-operating with Uturn Africa on this year’s forum, focused on Kaizen! Africa’s Way. Precisely at a time in which the abundance of opportunities naturally elicits bold visions, the insistence of Kaizen on continuous improvement, steadiness of purpose, sweating out the details and engaging fully all members of the organization is a most needed reminder that ultimately the non-negotiable requirement for success in a more world-connected Africa is consistency in actually delivering value.
