Central Saint Martins, UAL, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, with LUX, Lauderdale House, Friends of Waterlow Park and Camden Council.

The artworks exhibited throughout Waterlow Park, LUX and at Lauderdale House have been made by some 120 students who are studying Fine Art on the Level 4 Foundation diploma at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UAL), which is based nearby in Archway. The three pathways within the programme had three weeks to produce work and develop maps and promotional material for the event.

Lauderdale House: Painting at the Edge of the World Exhibition on until Sunday 11 February 2018

The 2D students showing at Lauderdale House are learning technical and conceptual skills centred around image making and representation through drawing, painting and photography. They have been challenged to consider where the edge of a painting may begin and end and what relationship it may have to moving image, animation or installation art. The work shown is the result of their response to these questions and research into the buildings and objects in and around Waterlow Park.

LUX: Park Life

AT LUX, the 4D students have made work that explores the time based and durational. They interrogate the narratives and stories of the park and its users through photography and video/moving image, spoken word, performance and other digital media such as virtual reality. Video work is on the show reel in the cinema, photography and performance take place in the long events space, and there are additional live action events in the aviary and throughout the park.

Waterlow Park: Sculpture Trail

The 3D students have made site-specific works, learning to understand how to make work safely for outdoors, and consider for whom the work is intended. They have made visualisations as part of a working proposal, costed up their proposed works to ensure they are viable, then manufactured and installed the work.

“Working with Waterlow Park has been a great opportunity for the students to develop their practice. It has given them a chance to think about how their work is informed by the challenges of a public outdoor space, and be effective for the community and the park itself. Camden Council has been a great support throughout the project.” Adrian Scrivener Curriculum Leader in Fine Art, Foundation Course, Central Saint Martins, UAL
