A MESSAGE FROM FR. MARC

Dear Faith Family,

Happy Father’s Day!

From week to week our parish family welcomes more people back to in person worship. It is Fr. Marc Bishop - Pastor important to realize that each St. Agnes and St. Camillus parishioner attending is in a different spiritual and emotional place. Some are overjoyed to be back and others are stressed by the anxiety of gathering. We need to be attentive to our own place in this journey and be empathetic of where others may find themselves along this sojourn. It will take patience from all of us. Patience rooted in our prayer.

We are working very hard using media old and new to reach out to parishioners. This includes: mailing hardcopies of the bulletin, making phone calls, posting on Facebook and websites, a weekly email newsletter, and many other things. It is all our responsibility to share the news of the Collaborative. If you know of someone that would need a personal call or note, please notify the office so we can reach out to them. Also, this is a good time to make sure your parishioner registration information is up to date. This can be done online via our webpage or simply by dropping us a note with the new information: phone numbers, addresses, who lives at your home, etc.

I will be away on vacation to Iceland this coming week. I am very excited to explore, as best one can, an active volcano while I am there. I am very excited. Please pray that my trip is re-creative and restful.

God Bless and Happy Summer,

Fr. Marc

MUSIC NOTES The lush harmonies and flowing musical lines create from Roger a glorious setting to an ancient text. From its 4th This Sunday’s opening hymn, century utterance to this weekend’s offering at Mass, “Christ is made the sure it is clear why the “Cantique” maintains its esteemed foundation,” may be a new hymn to role in both the world of music and the Church. You some of you as it was not in our will hear that the quartet is also joined by cellist and former hymnal. It finds its origins, St. Agnes parishioner, Charlotte Bell. He is more widely known in church music as the composer of “Trumpet Voluntary” that we so often hear at weddings and other joyous occasions.“ Christ is made the sure foundation” is a very robust hymn with sturdy rhythm that pushes it along through many phrases of biblical reference.

This week marks the end of the season for the quartet at St. Agnes. Although the group may make an appearance here and there during the summer, the quartet’s ministry at the 12 Noon Mass will come to an end as we move into summer worship. As you know, we have not been able to have our full choir at Mass due to Covid restrictions. Beginning earlier this year we were able to create a socially-distanced quartet, like several churches had done in the diocese. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the singers for their continued diligence and beautiful Singing throughout the past half of this year. If all goes well, we will have our wonderful choirs returning in the Fall season.

The choral piece offered by the quartet this Sunday is “Cantique de Jean Racine,” by Gabriel Fauré. The text of this piece is a French translation of “Consors paterni luminis” (O Light of Light) attributed to the 4th century Bishop of Milan, St Ambrose. Jean Racine, a 17th century poet translated St. Ambrose’s words into French. In the late 19th century, Fauré set the French words to music (at the age of 19).
