Artist Biographies

VIF - VIF was born in Phoenix, in 2015 out of a desire to explore and share the rich repertoire of the violin, clarinet and piano, and to collaborate with different art forms. VIF received a Maricopa County Community College Visiting Artist Grant to present a collaborative chamber music concert with dancer at Phoenix College and Glendale Community College for music and dance students. The innovative program centered on Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat with choreography and dance by Rebecca Rabideau. VIF is delighted to perform at Hidden Valley Music Seminars.

Erin Finkelstein has performed with the Carmel Bach Festival for eight seasons. Originally from Sparks Nevada, Erin received her Bachelors of Music from the University of the Pacific, and earned her Masters of Music in clarinet performance from and continued study with David Krakauer in New York City. She is heard performing frequently with the Phoenix Symphony and Arizona Opera and has performed with the Monterey Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, Modesto Symphony, Stockton Symphony, Santa Cruz Symphony, Reno Chamber Orchestra, and Fresno Philharmonic. As an active chamber musician, she performs with the wind quintet, Mill Ave Chamber Players. A passionate teacher, Erin is adjunct lecturer of music at Phoenix College. In addition to her musical life, Erin is a Feldenkrais Practitioner ® and helps musicians and the general public find new ways of moving and thinking.

Thomas Nixon received his doctorate in collaborative piano from Arizona State University as a student of Russell Ryan and Robert Hamilton. He holds additional performance degrees from Arizona State University and the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. Dr. Nixon is a prizewinner of numerous competitions including the Jacob Flier International Piano Competition, ASU Concert of Soloists Concerto Competition, and the Nashville Symphony Curb Records Competition. Dr. Nixon currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Glendale Community College and is the pianist for Arizona Opera’s educational outreach program. He is also frequently featured on KBAQ Phoenix Classic Radio.

Violinist Karen Sinclair holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, a Diploma of Postgraduate Performance from London’s Royal Academy of Music, and a Master of Music degree from Rice University. She made her solo debut at age 11 with the Philadelphia Orchestra and has returned to perform as a soloist with them on two other occasions. Her major teachers include Jascha Brodsky, Yumi Ninomiya Scott, Gyorgy Pauk, Kathleen Winkler, and William Preucil. Karen currently performs as a member of the Phoenix Symphony in Arizona and the Grant Park Orchestra in Chicago.

Dancer Rebecca Rabideau is from Saratoga Springs, New York, where she began her dance training in Ballet, Tap and Jazz at an early age, with additional training in Modern and Ballet. She received a Masters of Fine Arts in Choreography and Performance from the State University of New York College at Brockport and a Bachelor of Science in Dance from Skidmore College. A prolific choreographer, her work has been presented throughout New York and Arizona. She was the artistic director and choreographer for Converge Dance for three years. In addition, she created a popular series of creative movement workshops for children that have been presented in public libraries throughout New York and Arizona. Rebecca is the Dance Program Director at Glendale Community College and is the artistic director of VERVE Dance Company.
