REGULATION GOVERNING THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN VISUAL ARTS (BVA)

ANNUAL SCHEME: 2018-19 (Revised)

1. TITLE: 1.1 This Regulations shall be called as the “Davangere University Regulations Governing the Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts (BVA)”, 2018-19.

2. COMMENCEMENT: 2.1 It shall come into force from the academic year, 2018-19The Academic year shall ordinarily commence as per the University Calendar of Events.

3. DEFINITION: 3.1 ‘University’ refers to Davangere University. 3.2 ‘Student’ refers to student admitted to BVA Degree course under these Regulations. 3.3 ‘Fee’ means fee payable as prescribed by the University under these regulations. 3.4 ‘AC’ refers to Academic Council of Davangere University.

4. DURATION OF THE COURSE: The course shall be of Four Academic Years. It is called BVA Degree which has One year foundation course and Three year of specialization in any discipline such as Applied Art / Painting / Sculpture / Animation & Multimedia

5. MAXIMUM DURATION OF THE COURSE: The maximum duration of the course is as per Davangere University norms.

6. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO FOUNDATION COURSE: 6.1 The minimum qualification for admission to the eligibility is passing PUC/ 10+2 or It’s Equivalent. However seats shall be allocated on the basis of merit. (PUC/ 10+2)

6.2 ORAL INTERVIEW: There shall be oral interview for the candidates who seeking admission to one year Foundation course.

7. INTAKE: The total number of students to be admitted is limited to 60 seats for foundation course and if additional seats are required permission should be taken from the University from time to time.

8. ADMISSION TO I YEAR B.V.A SPECIALIZATION (Degree Course) Candidates seeking admission to I year BVA specialization course are required to have passed in the foundation course. Or they must have cleared at least any SIX papers (Theory / Practical) in Foundation course respectively. This Carryover System shall not be applicable to the other than Davangere University students. 8.1 Admission to I Year BVA degree specialization course is based on the availability of seats. 8.2 If selected, the other university candidate or other state candidate according to the admission norms of the Davangere University must seek the approval of the above said University and remit the fees within prescribed date.

9. ELIGIBILITY FOR PROMOTION: 9.1 It is must for a student to pass 6 subjects/papers (Practical/Theory) i.e. subjects to get admission to next Higher class. 9.2 I Year to II year specialization degree course: A student who seeks admission for the II year BVA Specialization degree course should have cleared at least SIX papers in I year BVA Specialization degree course. And have cleared all papers in BVA Foundation. 9.3 II year to III year specialization degree course: While seeking admission for the III year specialization degree course the student should have cleared at least SIX papers in II year specialization degree course. And cleared all papers in I year BVA Specialization degree.

10. ALLOCATION OF SEATS: 10.1 Seats shall be allocated as per the existing Government/University order in force at the time of admission. 10.2 The eligible candidates shall register their names for the BVA course as per the university guidelines.

11. DISCIPLINES OFFERED/ SPECIALIZATION COURSE: 1) Applied Art 2) Painting 3) Sculpture 4) Animation & Multimedia

11.1 SEATS ALLOTED TO EACH DISCIPLINE: Specialization course as shown below

11.2 In case of students from other University who want to seek admission at Davangere University BV A course for the I year (BVA) specialization, 20% of additional (each discipline) seats shall be provided for them. Such students should have completed I Year Foundation (semester or Annual system) Course in their respective Universities.

12. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: The medium of instruction shall be English / . 2

13. ATTENDANCE: 13.1 Attendance requirement, progress and conduct: As per the existing norms of the Davangere university for other Bachelors’ degree programmes. 13.2 If a student represents his / her institution / University/state at National level Sports / NCC / NSS / Cultural Events, Artist Camps, Workshops, Seminar, Art Exhibitions or any other officially sponsored programs, he / she is permitted to avail maximum 40 days of attendance. 13.3 In case of accident / serious illness leading to actual hospitalization, a student has to produce the medical certificate counter signed by the District Surgeon to avail maximum 40 days of attendance. 13.4 Such cases of shortage of attendance shall be reported to the university immediately after the closer of the term and well before the commencement of the examination, either theory or practical whichever is earlier.

14. INTERNAL PROGRESS: (practical & theory subjects) 14.1 The internal assessment is based on assignments and tests. Therefore the students must Submit the assignments of all subjects and attend the internal tests in all the subjects in every Two months of the each academic year. 14.2 Each Practical paper shall carry 50 marks for internal assessment and the candidate must secure a minimum 40% of the total I.A Marks. (i.e.20 marks out of 50 is compulsory) 14.3 Each Theory paper shall carry 20 marks for internal assessment and the candidate must Secure a minimum 35% of the total I.A Marks. (i.e. 7 marks out of 20 is compulsory) 14.4 The Final Year BVA degree students should display / make presentation of their works of all subjects at the time of central evaluation.

15. COURSE STRUCTURE: 15.1 The course structure of B.V.A. its contents, regulations, scheme of teaching, examination, evaluation and syllabus shall be as approved by an Academic Council of Davangere University from time to time. 15.2 There shall be University Examinations at the end of academic year for the prescribed papers. A candidate has to pay the prescribed fee to appear for academic year examinations. 15.3 One year Foundation course has four theory papers and five practical papers. 15.4 All the disciplines /specialization courses in BVA has Two theory papers, Six practical papers. And one elective paper out of four. 15.5 Examinations for Environmental science and Indian constitution papers has to be conducted according to Davangere University norms.

16. SCHEME OF EXAMINATION: 16.1 There shall be University examination at the end of the academic year. 16.2 Each Language / Theory papers offered in each academic year shall carry a maximum of 100 marks, with 20% marks for internal assessment and 80% marks for examination. 16.3 Each practical paper offered in each academic year shall carry a maximum of 100 marks, with 50% marks for internal assessment and 50% marks for examination.

16.4 A certified copy of the list of internal assessment marks shall be sent to the University i.e., Registrar (Evaluation) duly signed by the concerned Faculty, HOD / Co-ordinator / Principal. 16.5 The student can select any One elective other than their specialization. 16.6 There shall be single evaluation for all theory papers i.e, examination evaluation conducted with external examiners. 16.7 There shall be single evaluation for all practical papers i.e., examination evaluation conducted with external examiners.

17. APPOINTMENT OF EXAMINERS: 17.1 The subject experts, outside or inside have come under the jurisdiction of Davanagere University, from Fine Art/ Visual Art Education Institutions with five years of teaching experience at UG / PG level courses have to be appointed subject wise as the members of the BOE. 17.2 Registrar,(Evaluation), Davanagere University, appoints the Chief Superintendent / Additional Superintendent of examinations.

18. MINIMUM MARKS FOR PASS IN THE EXAMINATION: 18.1 Minimum for pass, in Practical Examination is 40% (i.e. 20 marks out of 50 exam marks is compulsory) 18.2 Minimum for pass, in theory Examination is 35% (i.e. 28 marks out of 80 exam marks is compulsory) 18.3 The students who fail in any subject/s can re-appear for the examination by remitting the prescribed fee for each subject in the respective examination. However there shall not be any change in the internal assessment marks obtained by the student.

19. RE-EVALUATION: 19.1 There is no Re-evaluation for Practical Subjects 19.2 A candidate who has applied for Re-evaluation (for theory subjects only) shall be admitted to the next year after obtaining an undertaking from the student to the effect that if the candidate fails to pass in re-evaluation, his/her admission would be cancelled as per Davangere University norms.

20. STUDENT’S BEHAVIOR IN THE EXAMINATION CENTRE: As per Davangere University norms. OR 20.1 The student has to be presented during the first session of the practical examination. If he/she remains absent for the first session, he will be disqualified for attending the next sessions.

20.2 Taking the photograph of any page from the answer scripts is a punishable offence. In case a student is found taking photograph, he/she will be debarred from the examination and such a student will be suspended from the examination at least for one year. 20.3 It is a punishable offence to keep tablet/mobile phone/blue tooth/ear phone/any electronic gadgets while writing the examination. If a student is found with such gadgets he/she will be debarred from the respective annual examination and such a student will be suspended from the examination at least for one year. 20.4 If any candidate misbehaves with the room supervisor, he/she will be debarred from the respective annual examination and will also be suspended from the examination for one year The Examination Chief Superintendent has the right to debar him/her from the examination of one paper and he can debar such a candidate from the rest of the papers of the respective examination. 20.5 It is compulsory for the candidates to answer the questions of either practical/theory examination accordingly. In case he/she is showing disrespect to Indian constitution or condemns teaching or non-teaching faculty in answer script, he/she will be disqualified permanently from the entire course. 20.6 These rules and regulations of the examination are applicable to the students of UG & PG course of the Davangere University college of Visual Arts, Davangere, year 2018-19.

21. EXAMINATION RESULTS AND IT’S CLASSIFICATION: The result of the students appeared for the examination is classified as below.

a) Distinction: It is for the students those who obtain aggregate 70% and above marks in all the academic years. b) First class: It is for the students those who obtain aggregate marks is below 70% and not less than 60% in all the academic years. c) Second class: It is for the students those who obtain below 60% but not less than 50% of the aggregate marks in all the academic years. d) Pass class: It is for the students those who obtain below 50% but not less than 40% of the aggregate marks in all the academic years.

22. DECLARATION OF RANKS: Top scorers of the each disciplines (specialization) course will be given ranks respectively at the convocation of Davangere University. It is must for the top scorers to clear their each academic year in first attempt only.

23. REJECTION OF RESULTS: The students who wish to reject the result of any academic year should abide by University Regulations.

24. TRANSFER OF STUDENTS: 24.1 Transfer of students from any University to this University shall be permitted only at the beginning of the academic year as per Davanagere University regulations. 24.2 A candidate seeking transfer from another University should have cleared all the subjects of the preceding annual or Semester prescribed by the parent University and produces the required marks card/certificate. 24.3 Transfer of students form one college to another college affiliated to Davangere University is allowed only at the beginning of the academic year.

25. REPEAL AND SAVINGS: Not with standing anything contained above, provisions of any Statute, Regulations, Orders or rules in force shall be inapplicable to the extent of inconsistency with these regulations. The university shall issue such orders, instructions, procedures & prescribe such formal as it may deem fit to implement the provisions of this regulation. The decision of the Vice-Chancellor in all matters shall be the final.

Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) Structure & Scheme of the Syllabus Annual Scheme 2018-19

Foundation Course in Visual Arts - Duration One Year

Objective The objective of this intensive one year course is to provide fundamental training in drawing, perspective, design, color, clay modeling and printmaking as practical subjects and theory of art history, English and Kannada / Hindi / Sanskrit / Urdu languages is compulsory. The courses Emphasis on creating and awareness about basic design experience and textural sensibility of visual arts in the students and to promote have an advanced study in future three disciplines.

Study of two dimensional space and its organizational possibilities. Principles of design and their application leading to an understanding of the problem of space organization, using colour, line and basic shapes, volume texture, basic design problem, study of techniques of colour application. Development of pictorial design in to content oriented paintings with representational aspect.
