The purpose of analysis, besides its social scientific influences, is to process some data that cannot be detected with human possibilities. MatLab, that becoming a comprehensive laboratory for all other engineering production and solutions and that converting music data into computable values for all purposes, has become one of the most effective software for music analysis. Music analysis with Matlab can be applied by users over raw audio files, generally. But more commonly used method is to use symbolic data that represents to music. One of the strongest symbolic representations are MIDI. Matlab uses with a variety of toolboxes for music analysis such as MIDI ToolBox (MTB) that developed by Finnish scientists.

  • The Music of Tuva
The Music of Tuva THE TINY REPUBLIC OF TUVA is a giant when it comes to mastery of the human voice. The ancient tradition of throat singing (xöömei in Tuvan) developed among the nomadic herdsmen of Central Asia, people who lived in yurts, rode horses, raised yaks, sheep and camels, and had a close spiritual relationship with nature. WHERE IS TUVA? Tuva (sometimes spelled Tyva) sits at the southern edge of Siberia, with Mongolia to its south. Over the centuries, Tuva has been part of Chinese and Mongolian empires, and shares many cultural ties with Mongolia. Early in the 20th century it came under Russian influence, and in 1944 it became part of the Soviet Union. Tuva is now a member of the Russian Federation. A UNIQUE CONCEPT OF SOUND. The Tuvan way of making music is based on appreciation of complex sounds with multiple layers. Whereas the western cellist aims to produce a focused, pure tone, the Tuvan igil player enjoys breaking the tone into a spray of sounds and textures. Absolute pitch is less important than richness of texture. Multiple sonorities are heard together as an inseparable whole. This idea may be illustrated by an anecdote about a respected Tuvan musician who was demonstrating the igil, a bowed instrument with two strings tuned a fifth apart. When asked to play each string separately, he refused, saying it wouldn’t make any sense. The only meaningful sound was the combination of the two pitches played together. TUVAN THROAT SINGING. Despite what the term might suggest, throat singing does not strain the singer’s throat.

Karelina* Novosibirsk State Glinka Conservatoire 31 Sovetskaia Str., Novosibirsk, 630099, Russia Received 11.12.2017, received in revised form 22.01.2018, accepted 06.02.2018 The article is devoted to the analysis of the cultural politics in Tuva and is focused on the problematic aspects of its current development. It is the result of reflection on personal participation in the cultural policy making in the Tyva Republic, followed by the report and its subsequent discussion (within the Forum “Tuva of Future: Strategy for Change”, 28-30 June 2017, Kyzyl) through the application of historical-comparative, structural-typological and participant observation’s methods. According to the author, a major challenge for the development of culture industry of Tuva is that in the Soviet period it was the institutional model chosen for regional cultural development, while the region experiences the lack of human resources. Ethnic culture of the post-Soviet stage in the Tuvan history is characterized by the self-isolation concerning the value aspect. The implementation of the cluster institutional models and the effective use of the Tuva cultural brand, which is an eco-exo-ethnocultural synthesis, can contribute to the solution of the cultural policy problems. The research results can be applied in the development of concepts and Republican target programs of the Tuva cultural development.

  • What Is Throat Singing?
SAN K01 Spring 2008 Supervisor: Christer Lindberg Bachelor Thesis Department of Social Anthropology What is throat singing? Author: Robin Öberg Abstract In southern Siberia there is a culture of throat singing, a singing technique where a person can create two different and clearly audible tones at the same time. This throat singing phenomenon has flowed from the Tuvan republic in Russia out into the entire world. Persons of different ethnic ori gins sing and teach throat singing to persons from all kinds of nations, thus all kinds of persons come in contact with the throat singing phenomenon. Questions that seem to naturally arise from this are: How is throat singing used by these persons, how does it play a part in their lives? This study begins with a historical background to the phenomenon of throat singing, introducing the important terms and concepts, then it goes into the more scientific analysis, showing phenomenologically how a heterogeneous group uses throat singing in its/their ontology, and then concluding it all by putting it all together, creating a model of a being of throat singing. In other words, this is a first step towards a complete understanding of the phenomena of throat singing, and this first step takes the approach from the experience of the individual. With a phenomenological method of analysis, Meaning Constitution Analysis, the different aspects of throat singing is exposed by showing the meanings associated with it. There has not been any similar study as this before, all the previous data using throat singing without definition is arbitrary. With the results of this study, even quantitative surveys can be used to further understand the phenomenon of throat singing.
