WE follow it, as it rockets toward the Imperial capitol. Four small TIE FIGHTERS escort the larger craft. The web-like structures of two Death Stars under construction loom in the distance as the transport approaches. Resting to one side of the half completed space station is Darth Vader’s super STAR DESTROYER and several ships of the Imperial fleet. One of the TIE Fighters escorting the Imperial transport begins to wobble and drops back with its engine sputtering.

Eberl, William Irwin The Force Is with You... but You're Not a Jedi Yet Now this may shock you, but there's an arcane, little-known quotation, one rich in meaning, that appears in every Star Wars movie: "I've got a bad feeling about this." In each episode of George Lucas's "space opera," one of the main characters expresses this basic existential anxiety.1 It's an intuitive response to an undefined problem. Yet it has its root in the essentially philosophical thought that our relationship to the world is one of questioning. Questions sometimes emerge from wonder, sometimes from doubt. We stare up at the heavens, much as Luke did on Tatooine, and wonder about the extent of the universe, its origin, and its meaning. In a crisis of faith, much as Luke had when confronted by his parentage on Cloud City, we may doubt many of our firmly-held beliefs and preconceptions. We search our inner selves, as did Leia when Han was being lowered into the carbon- freezing chamber, and wonder about what it means to love or be virtuous. Sharing Han's skeptical worldly point of view, we may doubt that we have any existence as a mind or soul after our bodily processes are nullified by death. We comb through our junkyard, much as Watto constantly does, and wonder whether there are formulas describing the variances of the value character of the products of labor. But philosophy doesn't have a monopoly on wonder or doubt.

Comic books and graphic novels can be used to teach reading processes and writing techniques, such as pacing, as well as expand vocabulary. Use this PDF to help students get more out of their comic book reading. Here are some of the projects you can give to your students to make comics educational and enjoyable! CHARACTER RESEARCH • Character Graph – Use the handout provided on page 2 to research information about a character from the books. Pages 3-4 provide teachers with the answer key. • Trivia Questions – Use the handout provided on page 5 to have students work independently, with a partner, or in a small group to research the trivia questions. Page 6 provides teachers with the answer key. CREATIVE WRITING PROJECTS • Create an Alien Species – Use the handout from page 7 to provide students the questions to answer in order to create the background information on their own alien species. • Create a Graphic Novel – Use the handout from page 8 to form small groups and ask the groups to create their own graphic novels over the course of a week.   • Yoda Rescue: for the Final Layer of the Game, a Toy Yoda Is Placed in the Furthest End Zone
    YODA RESCUE E N O R E Y A L Getting Going: Split your playing area up into thirds, with a much larger central area and two smaller end zones at each side. Cone out 5 planets using green cones with red cones on top (you will need this later). Split the students into two teams, Jedi and Sith. The Jedi Start in the small end third and the Sith start in the central larger area. Upon go, all players move around in the central third to become familiar with the space. Jedi can move anywhere in all three thirds (including on planets) whereas the Sith can move in the middle third except for the planets. Progress to a tag based game - The Jedi must try to visit each of the 5 planets in a 1 minute round. The Sith players try to tag the Jedi. If a Jedi is tagged, they must put their hands in the air and return to the starting end zone before they can try again. O W T R E Y A L Capturing the Planets: One all students are familiar with the area and tagging basics, the Jedi must now try to capture all 5 planets. In order to capture a planet, 4 Jedi players must be on a planet at any given time. Once they have 4 Jedi players , they can begin to switch the colour of the cones to turn the planet from red to green. Play this Layer as a time trial. How long will it take for the Jedi to capture all 5 planets? As before, if a Jedi is tagged, they return to the starting end zone before trying again, thus making the game continuous.
