Harvest for the Hungry’s Annual Sale By appointment, Christ Church Parking Lot 1717 Yulupa Avenue, Santa Rosa April 24, 2021

This year’s sale is dedicated to the memory of Mike Conway, who passed away in December.

Mike worked endless hours at Harvest for the Hungry. His PhD in plant science was put to good use as he managed the part of our plant sale for the last two years. Like the scientist that he was, he carefully evaluated the tomatoes he selected, and he kept a careful inventory of the preferences of our customers. We give special thanks to his daughter, Terese, who so kindly coordinated with us on Mike’s plans and seeds for this year’s plant sale.

Thank you, Mike, for your tremendous service to this gardening community! We miss you.

Tomato Varieties 2021_v.7 1

Welcome to our 2021 sale! We hope you enjoy exploring the many varieties in this year’s sale.

We have classified our tomatoes for your shopping convenience. Our categories may not match your definition of the terms we are using, so we describe our use of each term below. We eliminated the category “Hybrid” and put the hybrid tomatoes in the category that best describes their most important characteristic, e.g., Sungold is classified as “cherry”, is classified as “early”, and Crimson Carmello is classified as "heirloom".

Cherry Tomatoes: We include in this classification cherry tomatoes, small plum tomatoes, and grape tomatoes.

Container/Small Space Tomatoes: These are small tomatoes that are recommended for container growing or small gardens. Some of these tomatoes thrive in a smaller container but some will require more space. Please note the size of the tomato plant you are selecting.

Early Tomatoes: It is very important in Sonoma County to select at least one early tomato if you want tomatoes before late August. These tomatoes have been chosen to produce by mid-summer despite our cooler nights.

Heirloom Tomatoes: We include tomatoes that meet our standards of heirloom taste whether or not the variety is a heritage heirloom or an heirloom that was created in the last few years. We also include hybrids that were bred to taste like heirlooms.

Sauce/Paste Tomatoes: We include tomatoes that are extra meaty, have fewer seeds, and are good for cooking. Many of these varieties are also especially delicious for eating fresh. Remember, “paste” does not mean “pasty”!
