Upfronts: MTV Orders Late-Night Talk Show

04.21.2015

MTV added to its growing scripted slate at this year's upfront presentation Tuesday, notably with a late-night talk show created with CollegeHumor.

Middle of the Night Show, from CollegeHumor's Big Breakfast banner, will be hosted by Brian Murphy and features Murphy and his band sneaking up on celebrities who then host the show themselves on the spot with no warning. Middle of the Night Show is the network's first try at a late-night series since it canceled its latest effort from comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer.

Its upfront presentation included a first look at its fantasy series and a new look at the upcoming Scream TV adaptation, which will premiere in June - check out the official trailer below:

"We're exploding our development process across screens - getting faster, more daring, putting more projects into play and taking bigger swings than ever," said MTV President Stephen Friedman.

MTV renewed Faking It, which will debut its third season along with the final season premiere of MTV's other comedy series Awkward. On the unscripted side, we'll see more of Are You the One? and Broke A$$ Game Show, as well as the 27th season of The Challenge. To appeal to its social audience, MTV is also partnering with Vine's Logan Paul for a scripted comedy based on his life.

Brief Take: Breaking into the late-night space once again, MTV is demonstrating the wide range of its development plans, hoping to cultivate an audience of millennials and younger who may come for the unscripted stories, but stay for the next big scripted show.
