Camp Information: Weather camp offers a week-long residential program designed to expose students to the science of , , and career opportunities. The National Weather Center will be home base for this camp, and campers will have the opportunity to tour the facility including the Oklahoma Mesonet instrumentations facilities, NOAA’s , the Norman Forecast Office, and NOAA’s Science on a Sphere Display. Students will take part in field excursions that will include a visit to an Oklahoma City TV station’s weather center and interaction with meteorologists and students from the University of Oklahoma’s School of Meteorology.

This camp is available for students who have completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade by June 1, 2014.

During this week long camp, students will be housed in a University of Oklahoma residential hall and will be provided three meals a day. Students will be supervised by adult counselors who will reside on the same floor as students in the residence hall, escort them to and from class, and supervise evening activities and meals.

Tuition, Deposit and Refund Policy: Tuition $495 Tuition includes instruction, supplies, recreational activities, housing and all meals. Deposit $50 Due at time of registration. Refund if student is not accepted.

Please only send deposit with application, students will be invoiced for the tuition. Balance is due before June 6, 2014. 100% of the program fee will be refunded if enrollment is canceled before June 13, 2014.

Application Process: . Parent/Guardian and student complete the attached student application form. . Student writes a 250-word essay. A student-written essay must be included with this application. The student essay is to be typed or neatly hand written and not exceed 250-words. In your essay tell the selection committee why you are interested in attending the 2014 Summer Academy, your hobbies, extracurricular activities and any academic camps you have attended. Please include in your essay what you hope to gain from this experience and how you think it will help you in the future. Be sure to write your name, current grade level, and school at the top of your essay. . Parent/guardian or student gives a recommendation form to your child’s current science teacher and current mathematics teacher. . Grades - including current year in progress and test scores if available. . Include a $50 deposit with application packet. Deposit will be return if student is not accepted or declines acceptance.

The above requested documents are to be sent to Precollegiate Programs, University of Oklahoma, 1700 Asp Avenue, Norman, OK 73072. The Student Application Form, grades, essay, recommendations, deposit and scholarship application (if requesting financial assistance) are due by the deadline date, April 18, 2014. If all requested documents are not received by the deadline date, the application will not be considered. Written notification on the status of the application will be mailed no later than May 2, 2014.
