Tribute Acts Have Fast Become the Go-To Shows for Folks Around the World SHOW Tribute acts have fast become the go-to shows for folks around the world. Once an artist is gone they can be brought back to life through their music and stage performance by talented musicians and singers. Although he still alive, Glen Campbell is in the seventh stage of Alzheimer’s disease where he can no longer sing or play guitar. When an artist captures the essence of a true musical genius who spanned so many decades and brings him back to life on stage, the result is a high energy emotional rollercoaster of laughing, crying, singing, clapping and a wonderful feeling that will create an everlasting memory. This is The Glen Campbell Xperience! Longtime professional entertainer Jimmy Mazz delivers the world's premier tribute to Glen Campbell, the man and his music, featuring all the great timeless tunes from a music icon who touched the hearts of virtually everyone for over four decades. Enjoy famous hit songs including Rhinestone Cowboy, Gentle On My Mind, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Wichita Lineman, Southern Nights, Dreams of the Everyday Housewife, Galveston, Try a Little Kindness, and True Grit's Someday, Little Girl , plus many more. With over 70 albums, Glen’s career highlights country and pop music’s most memorable hits. Glen Campbell’s hit songs and spectacular career come to life with Jimmy's truly sincere and heartfelt vocals and guitar playing, along with an incredible multi- media screen presentation. Inspired by Glen’s prolific career, Jimmy was moved to tears by Glen’s final poignant hit song, I’m Not Gonna Miss You , which records his struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. You will be sure to tear up as well with Jimmy's haunting reprise of Glen's hit song Ghost On The Canvas from what supposed to be his final studio album. His final "Adios" is due out June 2017. You'll also experience the music of some of Glen's closest friends in the music industry with very amusing and vocally spot-on tributes to John Denver, Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, Conway Twitty and Jerry Reed. Sing and clap along to hits like Take Me Home, Country Roads, Ring Of Fire, King Of The Road, Only Make Believe, Amos Moses and Harry Nilsson's classic Everybody's Talkin' At Me . Committed to preserving the legacy of Glen Campbell, Jimmy seamlessly blends the country and pop music which made Glen a unique performer and subsequently, a music superstar. Folks will come back time and time again to see this very professional and highly entertaining show, The Glen Campbell Xperience! PERFORMERS Jimmy Mazz Jimmy Mazz began singing at the age of 14 in a Junior High School band. Growing up in a small town in Western Massachusetts Jimmy's early desire was to be a musician and performer, a rockstar, writing and singing songs. Influenced by British Rock and the punk music scene in the early 80's, Jimmy joined the band Picture This. A few years later, he formed Real World and toured with his original songs winning many battle of the bands competitions and recording almost 60 songs. Joining the wedding band Breezin' in 1993 changed his direction dramatically. Jimmy noticed that this line of performing actually yielded income. The catch was that he needed to learn to be an entertainer, not just a performer. That wedding band experience became invaluable teaching Jimmy how to actually entertain an audience. Those years molded Jimmy into the consummate entertainer he is today headlining at The Superstar Theater and other great venues nationwide. Jimmy began freelancing as a bass guitar player and rock music singer until forming the one hit wonder group 2XS in the early 2000's. Performing mainly in restaurants and lounges, Jimmy eventually would take on shows as a solo performer singing to digital midi tracks. From there it spread like wildfire and Jimmy's musical selection expanded to incorporate all genres of music including Motown, Folk, Polka, swing and of course a healthy dose of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The more Jimmy performed, the more the word spread and the higher profile shows were offered. Jimmy now headlines for a full month each year in Atlantic City, performs in Las Vegas, aboard several cruise ships, and in many casinos, theaters, supper clubs and banquet facilities nationwide as he includes many celebrity impressions and hilarious comedy into his act. He's performed in Europe, the Caribbean and travels and tours extensively to bring many completely different and uniquely themed shows to audiences everywhere. Jimmy's many unique shows have vastly different themes that include various wardrobes, songs, jokes, and stories, but always include artist interpretations, amusing parodies, audience participation, humorous antics, trivia, history, and of course a ton of great singing culminating here in his tribute to Glen Campbell. Tommy Sandz Accomplished Guitarist Tommy Sandz has toured with many bands over the years ranging from heavy metal to country folk. His unique style and ability to "play between the lines" adds a subtle layer of rhythmic ambience to any song and his professionalism stands out. Joe Pereira Longtime Piano and multi keyboardist Joe Pereira has performed since boyhood with many noteworthy bands including the Western Mass Allstars and has toured with acts like "The Fab Four" and several top quality award- winning Elvis Presley Tribute acts. Joe lends that full brass or light strings touch to songs that make the overall show full and professional. The possibilities shot up out of the ground from before me like Milton's Pandemonium from the soil of hell. Of course, this assignment ultimately turned out to be much less intimidating and filled with demons than that, but at the time, it felt as though it would be. When you're an English major like I am, your choices are simultaneously extremely numerous and severely restricted, mostly by my inability to write convincingly or sufficiently about most topics. However, after much deliberation and agonizing, I realized that something I am good at is writing about film.

  • Dangerously Free: Outlaws and Nation-Making in Literature of the Indian Territory
DANGEROUSLY FREE: OUTLAWS AND NATION-MAKING IN LITERATURE OF THE INDIAN TERRITORY by Jenna Hunnef A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Department of English University of Toronto © Copyright by Jenna Hunnef 2016 Dangerously Free: Outlaws and Nation-Making in Literature of the Indian Territory Jenna Hunnef Doctor of Philosophy Department of English University of Toronto 2016 Abstract In this dissertation, I examine how literary representations of outlaws and outlawry have contributed to the shaping of national identity in the United States. I analyze a series of texts set in the former Indian Territory (now part of the state of Oklahoma) for traces of what I call “outlaw rhetorics,” that is, the political expression in literature of marginalized realities and competing visions of nationhood. Outlaw rhetorics elicit new ways to think the nation differently—to imagine the nation otherwise; as such, I demonstrate that outlaw narratives are as capable of challenging the nation’s claims to territorial or imaginative title as they are of asserting them. Borrowing from Abenaki scholar Lisa Brooks’s definition of “nation” as “the multifaceted, lived experience of families who gather in particular places,” this dissertation draws an analogous relationship between outlaws and domestic spaces wherein they are both considered simultaneously exempt from and constitutive of civic life. In the same way that the outlaw’s alternately celebrated and marginal status endows him or her with the power to support and eschew the stories a nation tells about itself, so the liminality and centrality of domestic life have proven effective as a means of consolidating and dissenting from the status quo of the nation-state.

  • Glen Campbell's Songs Soar As His Mind Fades
DECEMBER 2013/JANUARY 2014 BY SUSANNAH GORA Glen Campbell’s Songs Soar as His Mind Fades As Alzheimer’s disease takes its toll, the famed singer’s spirit stays strong. The music video for "Hey Little One" shows an older man strumming his guitar and singing a low, slow ballad. His voice has weathered with age, but we'd know it anywhere: it's the voice of "Wichita Lineman" and "Rhinestone Cowboy," a voice that has won five Grammys, sold 45 million records, and blended country music with pop before it was cool. It's the voice of Glen Campbell. Hearing him tell his stories in song has always been a powerful experience—maybe more so now, because Campbell has Alzheimer's disease (AD). NBC/NBCU Photo Bank/Getty Images In the video (for a track from Campbell's latest album, See You There), we also see Campbell's wife of more than 30 years, Kim. She holds her husband's hand as they look out at the ocean and the horizon together. It's a poignant reminder that AD changes the lives not only of those who have the illness, but also of those who love them. A Widespread Disease Campbell is one of 5 million Americans with AD, defined by the National Institutes of Health as "an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out simple tasks of daily living." (See "Alzheimer's Disease: The Basics" below.) AD begins with memory loss because the disease "starts in brain areas important for memory, such as the hippocampus," explains Janet Jankowiak, M.D., a geriatric neurologist and member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).
