Republic Day Celebrations at ADI,Uppal

On behalf of Auroras Design Institute, the 62nd Republic Day of our Nation was celebrated in a colourful and grand manner. Principal Prof. Munavar Pasha, hoisted the National Flag. Architecture and Planning students attended the event. His sincere words to the students were well received and they will definitely become a source of motivation for them. Patriotic fervour and gaiety marked the Republic Day celebrations. Following a cultural programme, sweets were distributed to all participants.

The Principal, in his Republic Day speech, gave three most important messages. "All should understand their roles and act responsible in the society. He pointed out that the students should feel proud to be 'Indians' and being a citizen of a largest democratic country, all should exercise in voting which is fundamental rights of every citizen. He emphasised on each developing an attitude of beyond ‘self’, and adopt choices of wellbeing for self but at the same time have esteem for that of the fellow countrymen as well.

Achievements

Kabil-E-Design

A design marathon was held at JNAFAU for Architecture & Design students in association with IIID Hyderabad Chapter, Ethos .

Student Competitions provide a myriad of opportunities, they become a platform for you to demonstrate your talent, a stepping-stone to achieving greater things in life. The brief given for the competition was to design a memory for the late grandfather in their village that would remind their grandmother of the illustrious life he led as sarpanch.

25 teams comprising of 6 students per team participated in the competition from various colleges in the . 4 Student teams from Aurora’s Design Institute Architecture partook in the competition .The student teams eager to explore their boundaries and expand their design thinking horizons took this as a platform to test their acquired skills.

Celebrated architect from Banglore Ar.Gita Balakrishnan & her team from Ethos India was at the venue overlooking the proceedings. Hyderabad Architects Ar.Aparna Bidarkar, Ar.Nandu interacted with the students in the studios and guided them in the design process.ADI Students bounced with some really thought provoking ideas. It was a chance that the students adopted a process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal. The ideas had to be completed and shaped into a design output within stipulated time. Teamwork made students try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite different ideas tossed by individuals.2 teams reached the top 8 entries that were filtered in 2 stages at the end of the day.

The jury comprised of Mrs. Supraja Rao, Principal Designer of Design House, Hyderabad Ar.Samar Ramachandra Principal Architect SRA Product Designer Sandeep Dev, Director at 17dnorth, Hyderabad The Rubik cube inspired memory wall designed by students got special praise from the jury.

The fact that the students were in still their first year took the jurors for surprise. The students gave a tough competition in terms of Idea generation to their other counterparts from senior batches in the city.

Throw Ball Sport -B.Arch Vs B. Tech (Planning)

Throw ball games with B.Arch Vs B.Tech(Planning) Students was conducted on 14 November 2015.

Games and Sport are an integral part of a student’s life. A student should study hard to be successful in competitive examinations. But, he should also play games and sports to enjoy the health and vigor of life. Outdoor games gradually build up a healthy body and make the mind energetic. In addition to this games also help the students to identify their own hidden talents.

The main objective of this activity to inculcate learning of co-ordination, team management, time management, team work, leadership qualities and create a base for the student to interact outside their own environment and nature their personality.

QutubShahi tombs Visit

The students were introduced rich history and legacy of the Hyderabad city by historians and conservation architects on participation in a heritage walk at Qutub shahi tombs curated by Shri.KK Mohmmed, ASI Director & Intach Hyd Convenor Ms.Anuradha Reddy.P.

The visit also included an orientation on Principles of Design ,Ornamentation, relation between shape form and volume also on Principles of Site planning.

The students were also shown the panels of the restoration work displayed at the interpretation centre. The poster of the visit is annexed (Annexure 1)

A survey exercise was conducted by B.Tech (Planning) students on 23 November 2015. A basic knowledge of surveying is essential for planning, designing & implementation process.

The exercise is designed to familiarize the students with the process, basic concepts and skills of surveying. The survey was conducted at Ragavendra Colony, Pirzadiguda with a sample size of 100.

The survey was conducted to assess the existing scenario of the services like water supply, sanitation, Solid Waste Management and Transportation. A copy of questionnaire developed by the students is annexed (Annexure 2).

Guest Lecture

A guest lecture was conducted on 28th November 2015 on ‘Introduction to Contemporary Architecture &planning’ by Dr. Joy Sen, Professor, IIT Kharagpur and on ‘Sustainability in urban forms & built environment’ by Dr. Tathagatha Chatter, Professor, SPA Vijaywada at Aurora’s Design Academy, Bandla Guda. Card Board Art

Card Board Art practical session was conducted for B.Arch first semester students on 15 December 2015 at Aurora’s Design Institute, Uppal. The exercise was based on principals of design and composition.

A practical session on brick bonds was conducted on 20 Dec 2015 at ADI, Uppal..The students were familiarized with header, stretcher, overlapping, alternative a course on which theory was covered as a part of their construction studio exercise. This activity gives an Opportunity to practical exposure to types of brick bonds.

Visit to Timber Depot and Composite Masonry Structure

Understanding on construction material practically is the most important aspect for an architecture student. In order to this an educational visit to timber depot and composite masonry structure was done on 23 December 2015 for practical understand the timber and masonry as a construction material. Design Aware Work Shop

‘Designaware’ team headed by Ms. Takbir Fatima was invited to conduct a two day certification workshop on fractals. The workshop was conducted on 21-22 Dec 2015.This workshop was designed to open up students to innovation incorporating the principals of design and enhance 3D visualization of their design. This workshop also was structured to incorporate team effort and team work principles. The day wise schedule was

Day 1 Introduction to workshop, presentation on Fractals Workshop Series (2011 2015), initial exploratory period, evaluation & redirection group evaluation/discussion, briefing of rules, outline of expectations
