Dear Richard,
Many thanks for your email and subsequent phone call yesterday morning.
As discussed, we have considered representative photoviewpoints from Monarch’s Way and Zeals (PVPs 8, 11, 12 and 13). Similarly, we have considered photoviewpoints from the Mid Wilts Way (west of the Great Bottom) and from the footpath close to the reservoir (east of the Great Bottom) which represents views from within the AONB to the north east of Mere.
The Landscape Assessment will give consideration to the potential visibility of the site from White Sheet Hill (including the local area that surrounds it), Wood Farm and Stourhead (including the access roads that surround it).
Aside from the photoviewpoints, we would appreciate your advice regarding potential effects on the setting and special qualities of the AONB.
Many thanks for your time and advice.
Kind Regards, Anneliese

Hello Anneliese
Without informa倀 on about the height and form of development it is not easy to advise. Whereas a field may not be visible now, when 10m+ high buildings are constructed much of them can be visible and intrusive. A celebrated site where this is happening is Poundbury, Dorchester, when viewed from the north / north‐west.
You may, however, wish to check visibility from White Sheet Hill, the public rights of way, and Open Access land in that area. Wood Farm is a popular recrea倀 on area so it might also be prudent to check from there. Similarly views from the access roads to Stourhead should be checked as visitors there are likely to be highly sensi倀 ve to countryside character and urban intrusions. Also you may wish to consider views from Monarch’s Way and higher ground at Zeals.
I would also advise that it would be prudent to check poten倀 al views of development [not just the site at the present 倀 me] from the high ground, roads, PRoWs, and Open Access land to the north‐east of Mere.
I hope that is helpful.
Regards

Dear Richard,
Many thanks for your speedy response.
We are currently in the early stages at looking into this site but expect that a full LVIA will be required. We have been instructed in the first instance to undertake winter photography.
In terms of the proposed development and visual characteristics, I'm afraid we don't yet have that information but expect that it would be a residential scheme.
Kind Regards,
Anneliese

Hello and thank you.
Are you providing just a Landscape Assessment or a full LVIA?
The loca倀 on appears to be a green field site. What is the proposed development? What would be the key visual characteris倀 cs of it?
Regards

Dear Richard,
I was given your name by Maxine Russell at Wiltshire Council regarding a site in Mere, Wiltshire. Tyler Grange LLP has been instructed to provide a Landscape Assessment for the above site.
In the first instance we have agreed the study area and photoviewpoints with Maxine. We would also like to identify any additional photoviewpoints from within the Cranbourne Chase AONB. I attach the photoviewpoint location plan and ZTV which we have agreed with Maxine and would welcome your comments.
Whilst the site (red line as shown on the attached plan 10409/P03) is not within the Cranbourne Chase AONB, we are aware of "Position Statement 3 the relevance of the setting of the AONB".
We are also aware of the Cranbourne Chase AONB special qualities (as referred to within the Management Plan) and any potential effects on these will be considered within the Landscape Assessment.
We have undertaken an initial visit to gain an overall understanding of the site and its relationship with the wider landscape. We observed that views of the site from within the AONB are obstructed by the presence of Castle Hill and associated earthworks and vegetation. Your advise on potential viewpoints where the site may be visible from or have the potential effect upon the AONB would be greatly appreciated.
We are looking to undertake the field work this week (w/c 04/04/16) in order to get the winter photography done (as the leaves are already beginning to bud). If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards,
Anneliese
