On Tuesday, September 28, 2010, hearts from all over the world were broken as gospel singer Tony Greene breathed his last on this earth. So much could and has been said about Tony – the singer he was, the friend he was, the man he was, but even to a casual observer, the evidence points to the family man he was, so adored by his wife TaRan- da – who donated her kidney to him just over a year ago, prolonging his life – and with whom he had two precious daugh- ters, “Bella” and “Josie.” During this time of mourning, we at SGN Scoops can only say that our family is praying for all those who love Tony, that we mourn him with you, and that the thought of Heaven grows ever more pre- cious as we contemplate the reunions there waiting for us. “If we have the faith that’s measured by the smallest mustard seed Our mountains will be mastered by the Master of our needs If we have a child-like trust He says He’ll do the greatest things He’ll heal the sick and raise the dead And be a miracle in me.” ~ from “Miracle in Me,” as sung by The Greenes Photo by Heather Mitchell October 2010 COLUMNS & MAINSTAYS 2 Publisher’s Point Video Blog...     Haskell Cooley Bio Without a doubt one of the most recognized names over the past 30 years in Southern Gospel Music has been The Cathedral Quartet. Names such as Gerald Wolfe, Mark Trammell, Scott Fowler, and others come to mind when you speak of the Cathedral Legacy. One of the early names to be associated with The Cathedral Quartet was Mr. Haskell Cooley. Haskell Cooley was born in Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma, a town that only just a few years ago, “made it on the map,” Haskell chuckled. “My playing technique is somewhat unique I guess,” Haskell began. He started playing piano at the age of 13, and was for the most part, self-taught. His first group to play for was The Cooley Brothers, consisting of Haskell and his two siblings. They sang mostly in the Oklahoma-Arkansas region. Haskell’s formal training began at the Stamps School of Music in Dallas, he then studied classical music while attending college. Incorporating both styles of music helped to set-apart Haskell and made his piano playing very recognizable. After college Haskell took a job teaching piano at the Easmon Napier School of Music in Wichita, Kansas one of his first students was a young lady named JoLee. She began bringing chocolate chip cookies to the teacher and after a few lessons the cookies became payment; JoLee had won the heart of her teacher! Soon they were married. In 1972 Haskell joined the Weatherfords playing piano. “I am eternally grateful to Lily Fern and her late husband Earl for giving me a chance to play gospel music for the first time on a professional level,” stated Haskell.

    Sparrow Discography by Mike Callahan, David Edwards & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan Sparrow Records Discography Sparrow is a Contemporary Christian label founded in 1976 by Billy Ray Hearn. Hearn was the A&R Director for Word Records’ Myrrh label, founded a few years earlier also as a Contemporary Christian label. Sparrow also released records under their Birdwing subsidiary. Hearn’s Sparrow label was in competition with Hearn’s old boss, Word Records, and was quite successful. Even today, Sparrow is among the top Christian labels. Hearn sold the label to EMI in 1992, and it was placed under the Capitol Christian Music Group. Sparrow signed a distribution agreement with MCA in April, 1981 to release their product in the secular market while the regular Sparrow issues were distributed to Christian stores and Christian radio stations. The arrangement with MCA lasted until October, 1986, when Sparrow switched distribution to Capitol.
