This award is the highest honor that can be given to a WEATHER civilian in North Carolina. Mayor Lew Starling presented the plaque to Mr. Matthews along with a lapel pen. Kenny Lynch (left) and Wanda Capps (right), pictured above, have served the school for a combined half a century. Kenny Lynch (left), has served Sampson County Community College for 20 years, and Wanda Capps has served for 30 years. It is appropriate that their dedication to and time spent serving the school has been recognized, and I would like to take this time to thank them. I hope you are having a great week so far. The legislature adjourned from its most recent special session on Monday, August 27th. I expect Interim committees to begin after Labor New Beginnings Day, and look forward to getting them started so we can get our business done before November. The Loss of A Patriot This week comes with the looming cloud of the loss of a great American, Senator John McCain. I will always remember the time I ran in to Senator McCain at the Capital, and he took the time to have a candid conversation with me about immigra- tion reform and for that I am grateful. We have all suffered the loss of a man who dedicated much of his life to being a public servant and risked life and limb in the Armed Forces to help ensure the American people remain free. His passing away is deeply saddening, but while he is gone, may he never be forgotten. I would like to extend my condolences to Senator McCain’s family and friends. District Spotlight Billy Ray Jordan passed away at the age of 81. He was a friend, neighbor, and businessman in his community. He WA CHANG Buffet was the founder of Jordan Plaza, the first strip shopping cen- ter in Clinton, as well as Jordan Feed & Seed, Jordan Farm Center, Jordan Hardware, Jordan Farms, and Jordan Insur- ance Agency. Through his founding of Jordan Plaza, he was able to help facilitate the success of many other businesses and business owners, which is a reflection of his desire for not only his own success, but his willingness to help others achieve as well.
