Board of Management October 2020 Dear Applicant West College Scotland Board of Management – Appointment of Non-Executive Board Members Thank you for your interest in the appointment of non-executive Board members for the Board of Management of West College Scotland. Please find enclosed information outlining the role of a non-executive member of the Board. With more than 22,000 students, 1,200 staff and a turnover of £66m, the College is the second largest Regional College in Scotland. Our main campuses are in Clydebank, Paisley and Greenock, although we have a presence across six local authorities and fifteen towns and work from nearly fifty locations. A recent Scottish Funding Council review acknowledged the need for capital investment in our estate, especially at Greenock and Paisley, which is among the most acute in the entire sector. Our plans are not just to rebuild what we have but to create a state-of-the-art, industry-standard hub for local businesses to utilise and for our local communities to access. We also provide training for a range of business partners, from small- and medium-sized local companies to some of the biggest companies in the world. We are proud of the impact we have on our region and beyond, and we are passionate about making a difference. The Board of Management is now seeking enthusiastic individuals who have, or can develop, the skills to deal with complex issues and promote high standards of governance. The members of SWAPWest are the colleges and universities in the West of Scotland. The members work in partnership to provide education opportunities for adults who have no or few qualifications. SWAPWest have provided access programmes in the West of Scotland for 32 years. Our college partners provide a broad range of access programmes for adults who want to return to education. On successful completion of the programme students progress to higher education. Progression routes to degree level study are provided by our university partners. Opportunities to progress to HNC are provided by our college partners. Our programme model develops academic and learning skills and relevant social and personal competences. SWAPWest highlights the benefits of adults returning to education to Scottish society and our education partners. Working with SWAPEast and with funding from the Scottish Funding Council, we provide a coherent national provision of access programmes throughout Scotland. #WMTUS19 What Matters to Us CONFERENCE 20 MARCH 2019 AYRSHIRE COLLEGE KILMARNOCK CAMPUS WHAT MATTERS TO US WELCOME TO THIS NATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR final year HN students destined for a career in social care and early years and for staff in these subject areas. This event will provide opportunities for you to hear from inspiring speakers and take part in topical workshops at this key point in students’ transition. The conference has an eye to the future, with key themes around person-centred and person-led care, and on the key skills of leadership and partnership-working which will equip all future practitioners to provide more holistic support. The day will provide inspiration from service users and carers on their hopes for the future of care and support. There will also be opportunities to come together with peers, on exciting workshop topics, and take part in discussions. Over lunch there will be a marketplace of stalls, supporting your career development, and allowing you to grab some useful materials! This conference is partnership between Iriss, the Scottish Social Services Council, College Development Network, Early Years Scotland, the ALLIANCE, University of the West of Scotland and representatives from the college sector, including our host for the day, Ayrshire College. Participants will be able to apply for a SSSC Open Badge in recognition of their attendance and learning from the day. Four New Colleges for Scotland
PRESS RELEASE EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01hrs Thursday 01 August 2013 Four new colleges for Scotland Twelve colleges across Scotland have today merged to form four new institutions, marking a major milestone in the sector’s regionalisation process. The four new colleges – Ayrshire College, Fife College, Glasgow Clyde College and West College Scotland – all have principals, new boards of management and are overseen by a regional lead. They will form part of the 13 new college regions in Scotland. John Henderson, chief executive of Colleges Scotland, said: “Colleges across Scotland have been working on mergers and the regionalisation project for almost two years now and today marks a major milestone. “The new colleges will serve communities across Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Fife, Glasgow and Renfrewshire, providing invaluable services to their learners, employers and economies. “Each of the colleges should be congratulated for completing these mergers while carrying on with ‘business as usual’. “Regionalisation will be taken a further step forward by the end of the year with the creation of an additional four new colleges from mergers. The college sector is committed to delivering the very best for our learners and the Scottish economy.” The colleges still to merge include Cumbernauld and Motherwell colleges; John Wheatley, North Glasgow and Stow colleges; Aberdeen and Banff &Buchan colleges and Angus and Dundee Colleges..
