SAP® Innovation Awards 2020 Entry Pitch Deck Creation of a bunch of new KPIs for construction sites by connecting energy cables and fiber wire drums thanks to latest IOT technologies. Nexans (SAP customer) and ffly4u (Industrial IoT services provider) Company Information

Headquarters , La Defense Industry Cable industry Web site nexans.com Our Company

Nexans brings energy to life through an extensive range of advanced cabling systems, solutions and innovative services. For over 120 years, Nexans has been providing customers with cutting-edge cabling infrastructure for power and data transmission. Today, beyond cables, the Group advises customers and designs solutions and services that maximize performance and efficiency of their projects in four main business areas: Building & Territories (including utilities, e-mobility), High Voltage & Projects (covering offshore wind farms, submarine interconnections, land high voltage), Telecom & Data (covering data transmission, telecom networks, hyperscale data centers, LAN), and Industry & Solutions (including renewables, transportation, Oil & Gas, automation, and others).

Corporate Social Responsibility is a guiding principle of Nexans’ business activities and internal practices. In 2013, Nexans became the first cable player to create a Foundation supporting sustainable initiatives bringing access to energy to disadvantaged communities worldwide.

Nexans employs nearly 27,000 people and has an industrial footprint in 34 countries and commercial activities worldwide. In 2018, the Group generated 6.5 billion euros in sales. Nexans is listed on Paris, compartment A. For more information, please consult: www.nexans.com Our Connected Drums offer

Nexans was the first cable manufacturer in the world to equip its cables drums with tiny battery powered sensors to locate the drums via IOT and GPS technologies. These sensors are connected to an IOT platform developped and maintained by Nexans to help its worldwide customers locate their assets to avoid theft and loss, improve remote stocks follow up and reduce immobilitsation time. This IOT platform is interfaced with both Nexans SAP systems (Crossway,Cableway) to let its customers locate their drums but also follow the products and stocks in real time.

More than 7000 assets are connected via this technology in 8 countries. More information there: https://youtu.be/GaQcbPgj-5A

Industrial IoT services provider, “Edge AI Low Power®” proprietary technology

“The Internet of Things is now starting to make a major contribution across all aspect of industry. And as this project with Nexans shows, smart thinking allied to SAP cloud- based solutions and to embedded AI/ Machine Learning in the device can take even the most basic logistics operation such as cable drum management to the next level. Furthermore, it shows the capacity of ffly4u solutions to create massive business value and in fine customer value based on Supply Chains data” said Olivier Pages, CEO of ffly4u ([email protected]).

Creation of a new KPI: remaining cable length on a drum on a construction site is a real KPI allowing to:

• Monitor the progress of the construction site (number of meters unrolled, etc.).

• Optimize the collection of empty or partially empty drums and, in the latter case, be able to reallocate the residual lengths on another construction site.....

This new KPI creates even more business value for the cable industry, from the producer to its customer until the end user.

Nexans’ Connected Drum solution uses 21st century technologies to solve a key efficiency issue in the cable market. DSOs (Energy Distribution Services Operators), TSO (Energy Transport Services Operators) or telecom operators can loose hundreds of thousands of euros a year due to the lack of visibility on their drums scattered across construction sites or remote storage areas. Due to complex supply chain processes and high value cables (copper), cables and drums are frequently lost, stolen or left idle on sites. It is also challenging for DSOs to monitor their stocks across multiple remote storage sites.

Nexans worked with ffly4u, IoT industrial specialist, to increase the value in the cable sector by providing strong KPI which allows to monitor industrial activities in real time through: ✓ Drums geolocation ✓ Automatic calculation of the residual cable length thanks to embedded Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies.

Results: ✓ 20% reduction of relocation logistic costs of leftover cables ✓ 50% increase of the efficiency of working site management, (residual length). ✓ 90% reduction of drums theft and losses cases ✓ 25% reduction of rotation cycles time and reduction of immobilisation time. Leading to reduced renting costs of the drums for the customers and improved production time for Nexans. ✓ Improved traceability to ensure that the right cable is being used at the right location. Alert system to monitor on-site tasks, such as deliveries or pickup. . ✓ Cost savings for Nexans and its customers due to faster relocation of cable drums.
