Butterwick Hospice Brochure 2 Our Vision for the future Developing our Strategic Priorities

What are the drivers for change? Whilst we regularly review our clinical practices and services we considered it was time to review not only our current services but our non-clinical practices and potential future services to ensure we are able to meet the changing needs and expectations of patients, carers and commissioners. It is essential that our services are responsive, adaptable and fit for purpose. We met with staff and listened to the views of patients and carers to ensure we reflected their needs to develop service models that they can take pride in. Debbie Jones, Chief Executive From these discussions we have identified five strategic priorities:

Butterwick Hospice held a 10k Obstacle Course on Sunday 10th March 2019 at Hamsterley Forest. It was a chance to work as a team, to tackle the terrain, clambering through tyres, carrying logs and weaving through obstacles! This was the first time we held this event and what a fantastic success it was! The atmosphere was fantastic and people did a wonderful job in raising money for Butterwick Hospice for their challenge event. The event was just £10 per person which included a medal and certificate for each runner. With nearly 500 runners Butterwick was overwhelmed with how well everyone did at raising those vital funds. We would also like to thank Swift Timber Homes Ltd for sponsoring this event. Arctic Challenge, 23-30 March 2019

In March 2019 we had an intrepid group of adventurers set out on the ultimate survival challenge set 150km south of the Arctic Circle. During the week long challenge the daring team were taught how to survive in the extreme temperatures as low as -30, build shelter and snow holes to sleep in, and learnt how to make fire and forage for food. The group made up of Lyndsey, Matt, Peter, Paul, Ros, Bree and Ralph also took part in activities such as snow shoeing, husky sledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing and cross country skiing. Lyndsey said “ It was an amazing experience, really challenging at times but so rewarding. It’s incredible that together we were able to raise a significant amount to support the work of Butterwick. If interested in taking part in this challenge in January 2020 please contact fundraising on 01642 628930

Dates of future events: Coledale 10 Peak Challenge, Lake District 31 August 2019. 7-9 hours, £35 sign up and £100 minimum sponsorship. Includes T-shirt.
