Leilani Farm Sanctuary’s First Annual “Community of Compassion” Fundraiser

We all had an enjoyable time at our first gala, held at the beautiful Maui Country Club. Elegant jazz was provided by Toby Couture’s trio. Guests mingled before dinner, while sipping wine and nibbling delicious vegan cuisine prepared by chefs Angel Green and Shaun Christenson. A fabulous silent auction featured items ranging from antique jewelry to original fine art to resort vacations. Images of rescued animals were projected on a big screen throughout the evening. Barry Sultanoff, co-director of Leilani Farm Sanctuary, performed a Hawaiian chant and presented flower leis to founder Laurelee Blanchard and Vice President Melody Hofmann. Laurelee then spoke to the audience about our mission of animal rescue and humane education. A surprise screening of Leilani Farm Sanctuary’s movie, produced by Stars and Cinema, preceded the awards ceremony. Awards of appreciation for dedicated service to Leilani Farm Sanctuary were presented to outstanding volunteers Andre Deslauriers, Noriko Hoge, Kelly Ray Mulholland and Melinda Walker.

About the Sanctuary

Home to goats, rabbits, geese, donkeys, cats, pigs, ducks, deer, tortoises and chickens, Leilani Farm Sanctuary is located on an 8-acre farm in Haiku, Maui. It is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization created to provide shelter and care for rescued animals, and humane education to the community. Our mission is to give visitors the opportunity to interact with animals traditionally used for food production -- and widen their circles of compassion by choosing a vegan diet.
