Installing and Authorizing Arcgis for Desktop 10.7.1 Using an EVA Authorization Number Installing and Authorizing ArcGIS for Desktop 10.7.1 Using an EVA Authorization Number Quick Start Guide: http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/get-started/setup/arcgis-desktop-quick-start-guide.htm System Requirements: http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/system-requirements/latest/arcgis-desktop-system-requirements.htm STEP ONE: Obtain an EVA Authorization Code (12 digit code which begins with EVA) Authorization codes are available to registered members of Trent University from Trent University Library Maps, Data, & Government Information Centre (MaDGIC). Codes are valid for 365 days from registration, on one computer. Registered members of Trent University are entitled to ONE code per year, for teaching and course work. To obtain a code see: http://www.trentu.ca/library/madgic/studentsoftware STEP TWO: Regarding older versions of software: If you do not currently have an earlier version of ArcGIS installed on your machine, proceed to Step 2. If you are currently running an older version of ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap): If you already have ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 or later installed, it is not necessary to remove it. The ArcGIS Desktop 10.7.1 setup is designed to detect and upgrade an existing installation of ArcGIS Desktop on the target system. The settings for the installation location and authorization information are retained in the upgrade. After installation, any customizations, add-ons, or third-party applications previously installed might need to be reapplied. The installation folder cannot be changed for an upgrade. If you wish to change the installation location, you will need to manually uninstall the previous installation through Add/Remove from the Windows Control Panel before installing ArcGIS Desktop 10.7.1 in the new location. Further information Trent University Library Maps, Data & Government Information Centre (MaDGIC) Sept2016 rev Aug 2019 Contact us for assistance: [email protected] STEP THREE: Verify Install Prerequisites • Microsoft .NET Framework requirement: NET Framework 4.5.2 or higher must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop (NET Framework comes with Windows, only older machines may require an upgrade. In most cases the installation process will prompt you before starting, if it fails to detect this requirement.) • Browser requirement: Microsoft Internet Explorer (minimum IE 11) must be installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop. • Python requirement for geoprocessing: ArcGIS requires Python 2.7.16 and Numerical Python 1.9.3 to be installed. If the ArcGIS setup does not find either Python 2.7.16 or Numerical Python (NumPy) 1.9.3 installed on the target computer, Python 2.7.16 and Numerical Python 1.9.3 will be installed during a complete installation of ArcMap. You can choose a Custom installation to unselect the Python feature and avoid installing it. Additionally, if the Python setup is executed during the ArcMap installation, you will be provided with the opportunity to choose its installation location. The Python installation location should not include spaces. STEP FOUR: Register Software License Code and Download Software A. Visit www.esri.com/EducationEdition and login with your Global Esri Account or sign-up for your account if you don’t already have one. B. Enter your EVA Authorization Number (12 digit code obtained from Trent Library Maps, Data & Government Information Centre) and select “Activate ArcGIS”. C. On the next screen you are invited to select the version of ArcGIS for Desktop that you wish to download. We recommend that you select the latest version, ArcGIS 10.7.1 for Desktop. Trent University Library Maps, Data & Government Information Centre (MaDGIC) Sept2016 rev Aug 2019 Contact us for assistance: [email protected] After selecting a version to download you will be presented with multiple file download options. These files are multiple components of two different software products: ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro is a relatively new product and you are fully entitled to download and install it. However it is licensed separately from ArcGIS for Desktop and you will need to contact [email protected] to request access. To download ArcGIS for Desktop software, click the Download button next to “ArcGIS for Desktop”. This is the base software and is all you need to install and run the program. Other software components in the directory are optional, and can be downloaded and installed now or later as required. If you choose to install other software components they must be installed one at a time, and AFTER the base software is installed. See Table 1 below for a description of each file. Figure 1. Division of file downloads between ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS for Desktop. During this process: o When prompted, select ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced Single Use. o When prompted, accept the default, I do not wish to authorize any extensions at this time. The extensions will be authorized automatically. o When prompted, enter your EVA Authorization Number (12 digit number provided by Trent MaDGIC). STEP SIX: Turn on ArcGIS for Desktop Extensions Once software is installed and authorized, you will need to activate the extensions you wish to use. To do this: On your computer, go to Windows “All Programs” > ArcGIS> ArcMap 10.7.1 > Customize > “Extensions” and check the extensions you require. The installation process is complete! To test drive: Go to> All Programs> ArcGIS> ArcMap 10.7.1 Trent University Library Maps, Data & Government Information Centre (MaDGIC) Sept2016 rev Aug 2019 Contact us for assistance: [email protected] Trouble Shooting Authorizations: Should the authorization fail to launch automatically (after you have installed software successfully), proceed as follow: On your computer, Go to > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator > Click on “Desktop” > Select the “Advance (ArcInfo) Single Use “Authorize Now”. Enter your Authorization Number and complete the steps as prompted by the ArcGIS Administrator Wizard. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Your Authorization number can be activated on one machine only and will expire 365-days after registration. If during the 365 days you need to reformat or upgrade your machine, you must de- authorize the license BEFORE removing ArcGIS for Desktop software or activating on another machine. To do this: Access your Programs menu and browse to ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator. Highlight 'Desktop' in the left pane, ensure that 'Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use' is selected, and click the 'Deauthorize' button. Follow the instructions in the de-authorization wizard to complete the process. Further information regarding authorization of licenses is found at: http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/get-started/administer/authorizing-arcgis-single-use-products- and-features.htm TIP: File Compatibility with earlier versions of ArcGIS for Desktop To ensure files can be opened with earlier versions of software (for example, if you need to share a file with someone using ArcGIS for Desktop 10.6.1), save an additional copy of your work using the “Save as a Copy” command and choosing the version of software required. Introduction to ArcGIS I (for ArcView 8, ArcEditor 8, and ArcInfo 8) Introduction 1-1 Course objectives This course will introduce you to ArcGIS and provide the foundation for you to become a successful ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo user. You will learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution. The course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to create, edit, and work with georeferenced spatial data. You will learn how to manipulate tabular data, query a GIS database, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. This course covers a variety of topics but may not include specific tools or concepts used in your applications. If you have questions about particular functionality that does not appear to be covered by this class, feel free to ask your instructor. Introduction to ArcGIS I (for ArcView 8, ArcEditor 8, and ArcInfo 8) Introduction 1-2 ArcGIS is the name used to identify ESRI’s flagship family of GIS products. ArcGIS includes client software, server software, and data components. ArcGIS itself is not a GIS application; rather, it is a system of software products, each servicing a specific need. Software products and applications When someone purchases an ArcGIS system, they license software products which include one or more software applications. Understanding the difference between products and applications is important in understanding how ArcGIS is structured, and how the topics covered in this training class relate to the system as a whole. For example, one group may license the ArcView software product, which includes the ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox applications.

Introduction As of July 9, 2002, more than 300 websites, which provide automated mapping and facilities management over the internet, are registered in the ESRI Internet Map Server (IMS) user registry [1]. But it won’t be an exaggeration to assume that this is only a tiny fraction of the actual number of IMS sold and used over the world. In fact, realising the potential scope and issues of this new form of geographic information delivery, the International Cartographic Association has formed a Commission dedicated to Maps and the Internet [2]. The IMS software has also kept pace with the growing demand and progress in technology. IMS has evolved from the simple HTML image maps to sophisticated servelet-driven mapping services. During this period, a very significant event happened with the arrival of ArcIMS. With the ArcIMS the use of IMS changed from merely an interactive visualisation and query of the spatial databases to a platform for sharing remote spatial databases. In other words, the ArcIMS made the scale of operation of IMS global.
