Abstract: Thespecificcompositionofdecapodcollectedinthesublittoraldepths(8-135m)ofSarosBay(northeastern AegeanSea)ispresented.Atotalof40species(17Natantia,1MacruraReptantia,8Anomuraand14Brachyura)wererecorded. ThedominanttaxonisNatantia,representedbyatotalof17speciesandanoccurrencefrequencyof42%.

Introduction waschosenasthestudyarea.Amapofthesampling ThedecapodsoftheTurkishAegeanSeacoastwere areaispresentedinFigure1. notmuchstudieduntilthe1970s(Forskål,1775; Sampleswerecollectedeitherbybeam-trawlor Colombo,1885;Kinzelbach,1964;GeldiayandKocatafl, dredgefromatotalof17stations(Table1)atdepths 1967,1968a,1968b,1969;MaterandKocatafl,1967; rangingbetween8and135mduringJuly,Augustand Geldiay,1969)followedbyamoreprolificperiodsince September2000.Thecharacterizationofbiotopes then(GeldiayandKocatafl,1970,1972),Kocatafl,1971, indicated3distinctsubstratetypes:5ofthestations(5, 1978,1981;Özel,1976;Kata¤an,1980;Kocatafland 6,11,14and17)weremuddy,5(1,2,9,12and16) Kata¤an,1983;Kata¤anetal.,1988;Koçaketal.,2001; weresandy-muddy,and7(3,4,7,8,10,13and15) Balkısetal.,2001;KocataflandKata¤an,2003.However, werecoveredbyPosidoniaoceanica(L.)Delilemeadows. comprehensivestudiesondecapoddiversityinthe AlistofthesamplingstationsisshowninTable1. sublittoralzoneoftheTurkishAegeanSeaarestilllimited. ThesublittoralzoneofSarosBay,locatedinthe Frequencywascalculatedbydividingeachspeciescount ′ northeasternAegeanSeaandMarmarisbetween40°37 bythetotalnumberofallspeciescombinedandthen ′ ′ ′ 55˝N26°43 25˝Eand40°34 20˝N26°48 26˝E, multiplyingtheresultby100(Table2).

Results The Posidoniaoceanica (L.)Delile meadowsbiotope Atotalof978individualsbelongingto40decapod hadtherichestfauna,beingrepresentedby957 specieswerecaught.Natantiawasthemostdiversified individuals(97.85%F)and35species,followedbythe group(17species),followedbyBrachyura(14), muddybiotope,representedby10individuals(1.02%F) Anomura(8)andMacruraReptantia(1).Intermsof and7species.Thepoorestbiotopewasthesandy-muddy frequency,thecarideanshrimp Hippolyteinermis was substrate,representedbyonly11individuals(1.12%F) thedominantspecies(F=44.48),followedbythe and4species(Figure4). carideanshrimps Lysmataseticaudata (25.26%), Processamacropthalma (6.03%)and H.leptocerus Discussion (4.50%)(Table2).
