Discover and savor music of a distinctly Latin flavor. Puerto Rican composer Cordero will have you dancing in your seat. Golijov’s Last Round, at once driving and dreamlike, is an imaginative homage to the tango. Copland’s Clarinet Concerto was composed when he was living in Rio de Janeiro. Commissioned by Benny Goodman, it is distinctive for its jazzy elements. In the closing work, Argentinian composer Ginastera presents a delicious, folk-inspired soundscape of his homeland.

Beethoven’s monumental choral symphony, penned when the composer was deaf, is widely considered the most iconic work of western music. Join Sarasota Orchestra as we celebrate Anu Tali’s six-year tenure as Music Director with a finale that is a true “Ode to Joy.” Opening the program is Arnold Schoenberg’s Peace on Earth, for chorus and orchestra, full of complex harmonies and rich choral writing. It is a natural pairing for Beethoven’s beloved anthem to his cherished belief in the virtues of humankind. HERRMANN Souvenirs de voyage ROTA Quintet KORNGOLD Piano Quintet, Op. 15

Best known for their film scores, the three composers on this program were also brilliant and accomplished within the field of classical music. When not collaborating with Alfred Hitchcock, Herrmann composed a romantic and gorgeous clarinet quintet. Known for composing the music for The Godfather, Rota left the violence behind in his rapturously lyrical Quintet for Flute, Oboe, Viola, Cello, and Harp. While Korngold wrote swashbuckling music for Errol Flynn, his Piano Quintet offers a rich musical portrait full of breadth and depth.
