AWSTEN KNIGHT • GEOFF WIGINGTON • OTTO WOOD Houston, TX-based band Waterparks will release their debut full-length, Double Dare, on November 4 via Equal Vision Records. Double Dare was recorded in Los Angeles, CA with Benji Madden (Good Charlotte, 5 Seconds of Summer) and Courtney Ballard (5 Seconds of Summer, All Time Low). Double Dare is the follow-up to three EPs: Cluster (2016), Black Light (2014) and Airplane Conversations (2012). Of the forthcoming full-length, frontman Awsten Knight shares, “It’s just more. Everything about it is expanded and bigger. We wanted to push the boundaries to show people that you can be more than one thing. This isn’t just a “pop-punk” band and I think when people hear the rest of the album, it’ll be pretty apparent. There are songs that have elements of jazz, hip-hip, pop, indie, electronic, punk, etc. As far as the lyrics go, they’re more personal than they’ve been on any other Waterparks release. This album has been in the works since August or September of 2015, and in that time I’ve felt and dealt with a lot of different things. I was probably more open than I should be with some stuff but it’s fine. Honest songs are always best. It’s also got me at my happiest, so that’s a thing too.” The past year has been truly groundbreaking for Waterparks, who signed to Equal Vision Records, partnered with MDDN co., released Cluster, embarked on their first ever full US and UK tours, and landed spots for Knight on the covers of Alternative Press and Kerrang! magazines. The band has also toured as direct support on Good Charlotte’s US and UK reunion shows, on the entirety of the 2016 Vans Warped Tour, performed at SXSW, So What?! and Slam Dunk festivals and has just wrapped up their second UK tour, which included performances at the prestigious Reading and Leeds Fest. This November, the band will head out on another full US tour, supporting Sleeping With Sirens, State Champs, and Tonight Alive. The tour will kick off in Chicago on November 3 at Concord Music Hall. Waterparks is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Awsten Knight, guitarist/vocalist Geoff Wigington, and drummer/vocalist Otto Wood. 16 April 4, 2006 THE RETRIEVER WEEKLY Arts & Entertainment Good Charlotte banned from claiming Maryland as home state; thousands rejoice KATE NUNLEY Retriever Weekly Gossip Columnist Hordes of citizens from around the state of Maryland have banded together in an effort to prohibit the music group Good Charlotte from claiming Maryland as their home state. The quartet from Waldorf has been making a mockery of Maryland heritage since the debut of their self-titled first album in 2000. The band’s career began innocently enough. The single “Little Things” became a huge success. However, with each album the band has descended more obviously into the realm of boy bands. Even their tattoos and emo lyrics cannot hide the fact that their primary audience is preteens. Band members have even been seen hosting MTV’s Total Request Live. Recently, the band has added more embarrassing incidents to their track record including lead singer Joel Madden’s relationship with Disney teenybopper Hilary Duff. The couple began dating when Duff was seventeen and Madden was twenty- five. Two weeks ago the pair announced their engagement and plans for a wedding abroad. Rumors have been flying that Duff is carrying his child.
