The correct generic name for the species that belong to Eucharia Boisduval, 1870, a homonym, is either Annamaria D’Abrera & Bálint, 2001, which has been considered to be unavailable, or Lamasina Robbins, 2002, a replacement name for Eucharia. A recent re-interpretation of the original description of Annamaria was incorrect, and Annamaria is confirmed as being unavailable under Article 13.1 of the Code. A proposed neotype for Papilio ganimedes Cramer, 1775 is invalidated, and a possible syntype is illustrated. Results of an analysis of variation in the Lamasina ganimedes complex are distinctly different from those previously published and provide insufficient evidence to support the hypothesis that L. lathyi (Bálint, 2005) is distinct under a biological species concept. Lamasina lathyi is a synonym of L. ganimedes syn. nov. Statistical evidence overwhelmingly falsifies the published hypothesis that the L. rhaptissima (Johnson, 1991) (14 males) and L. columbia (Bálint, 2005) (8 females) species complexes are distinct rather than males and females of the same complex. Lamasina columbia is endemic to western Colombia. The hypothesis that L. rhapsodia (Bálint, 2005) from Bolivia is a distinct species is not better supported than the hypotheses that the one known specimen of L. -

A significant number of new Eumaeine species continue to be discovered in high mountains and cloud forest habitats in the Andes (e.g Hall et al. 2005; Robbins & Busby 2008; Prieto 2010) mostly when isolated high massifs are intensively surveyed (e.g Prieto & Rodríguez 2007; Prieto & Bálint 2007; Prieto 2011). -

The purpose of this paper is to establish a phylogenetic basis for a new Eumaeini subtribe that includes those lycaenid genera in which detritivory has been recorded. Morphological characters were coded for 82 species of the previously proposed “Lamprospilus Section” of the Eumaeini (19 of these had coding identical to another species), and a phylogenetic analysis was performed using the 63 distinct ingroup terminal taxa and six outgroups belonging to four genera. Taxonomic results include the description in the Eumaeini of Calycopidina Duarte & Robbins new subtribe (type genus Calycopis Scudder, 1876), which contains Lamprospilus Geyer, Badecla Duarte & Robbins new genus (type species Thecla badaca Hewitson), Arzecla Duarte & Robbins new genus (type species Thecla arza Hewitson), Arumecla Robbins & Duarte, Camissecla Robbins & Duarte, Electrostrymon Clench, Rubroserrata K. Johnson & Kroenlein revalidated status, Ziegleria K. Johnson, Kisutam K. Johnson & Kroenlein revalidated status, and Calycopis. Previous “infratribe” names Angulopina K. Johnson & Kroenlein, 1993, and Calycopina K. Johnson & Kroenlein, 1993, are nomenclaturally unavailable and polyphyletic as proposed. INTR0DUCrION ATLAS OF NEOTROPICAL LEPIDOPTERA INTRODUCTION TO THE CHECKLIST OF EUMAEINI LYCAENLDAE Robert K. Robbins The purpose of this preface is to give the rationale for the taxonomic arrangement of the checklist of Eumaeini, followed by discussions of how the checklist was organized, how decisions were made, and what was learned. I address the discussions successively at the specific, generic, and tribal levels. A concluding author's note explains why some previous taxonomic results were not used. The Atlas of Neotropical Lepidoptera ANL Checklist classification of 1,058 Neotropical eumaeine species partitioned into 83 genera and 15 sections' following the scheme in Eliot, 1973 is the first comprehensive taxonomic arrangement of these butterflies since Draudt 1919-20. A primary reason for this long interval is that most eumaeines are extraordinarily rare in collections. For example, about 20% of the species recognized in this checklist were not represented in major museum collections 25 years ago, and many eumaeine species, including some described two centuries ago, are still known from less than five individuals. A second reason for the long interval has been the lack of a higher classification discussed briefly below. For example, Janthecla Robbins & Yenables was distinguished from the entire Eumaeini because the genera that are closely related to Janthecla were unknown Robbins and Venables, 1991. Although it may be somewhat unorthodox to introduce a new taxonomic arrangement in a checklist, there is no comprehensive alternative classification, and it is my hope that this arrangement will provide the framework necessary to stimulate further research. The checklist includes 1,871 specific names attributable to the Neotropical Eumaeini cf. -
Lycaenidae: Theclinae: Eumaeini): an Andean Montane Forest Endemic
Phylogeny, taxonomy, and sympatry of Timaeta (Lycaenidae: Theclinae: Eumaeini): an Andean montane forest endemic Robert K. Robbins & Robert C. Busby Taxonomy of the Andean lycaenid hairstreak genus Timaeta Johnson et al. and its fifteen sexually dimorphic species is detailed for the first time. Species accounts summarize nomenclature, distribution, habitat, behavior, and distinguishing traits, as well as noting why each species is considered distinct under a biological or phylogenetic species concept and how males and females were associated. An identification key for males and a nomenclatural checklist are included. Nomenclatural actions include the description of Timaeta christina Robbins & Busby sp. n., Timaeta matthewi Busby & Robbins sp. n., Timaeta walteri Busby & Robbins sp. n., Timaeta roberti Busby & Robbins sp. n., Timaeta cospata Robbins & Busby sp. n., Timaeta pilosa Robbins & Busby sp. n., Timaeta gabriela Busby & Robbins sp. n., and Timaeta romero Robbins & Busby sp. n.. Timaeta neblina (Salazar & K. Johnson, 1997) is a new synonym of Timaeta eronos (H.H. Druce, 1890). A phylogenetic analysis is based on 17 coded morphological characters and yields two most parsimonious 30-step trees. Successive weighting does not change tree topology. The node chosen to delimit Timaeta is the one that had the highest jackknife support and was most stable with past usage. Generic names Trochusinus K. Johnson, Salazar & Vélez, 1997 and Jagiello Bálint & Wojtusiak, 2000 are confirmed as synonyms of Timaeta K. Johnson, Kruse & Kroenlein, 1997. Recent revisions of primarily Andean butterfly genera have had a significant proportion of previously unnamed species, and Timaeta fits this pattern with eight of 15 species previously undescribed. Most sister lineages within Timaeta are sympatric, and more than half the species occur between 1500m and 2000m in eastern Ecuador. -

JOHNSON Abstract: Atlides dahnersi sp.n.is described from Colombia (type locality: Colombia, Valle, Mpo. de Cali, Cerro San Antonio, 2200 m) and distinguished from other members of the genus. Key words: Neotropics, Colombia, Lycaenidae, Eumaeini, Atlides INTRODUCTION The Neotropical eumaeine lycaenid genus Atlides Hübner, 1819 (type spe- cies: Papilio halesus Cramer, 1777) is not particularly diverse.It includes 11–13 species according to different authors [Brown 1993: 53 (n = 13), Smith et al. 1994: 108 (n = “a dozen”), Bridges 1994: IX.16 (n = 11), d’Abrera 1995: 1120–1123 (n = 12)].Supposedly, all the species share a common larval foodplant family – Loran- thaceae, which is unusual amongst lycaenid butterflies (Fiedler 1991).Hence the adults of Atlides show bright orange-colored lower abdominal parts as well as prominent red basal spots or dashes at the wing bases adjacent the thorax; presum- ably to warn predators that they are protected by toxins. Present paper describes a new species of eumaeine lycaenid butterfly discov- ered in Colombia (Figs 1–2), which we place in the genus Atlides.There is a simi - lar, presumably sister, taxon occurring in Ecuador (Figs 3–5), which will be de- scribed in a separate paper (Bálint & Wojtusiak, in prep.). Since eumaeine diver- sity in the Neotropics is poorly understood, special attention is paid herein, to- gether with the taxonomic description of the Columbian butterfly, to its generic placement.This is because this exceptional looking species shows some wing characters that, for Atlides, would have to be considered supralimital.Accordingly, we (1) present a key based on the male’s ventral wing pattern (the female of the newly discovered species is not yet known), (2) describe the species, (3) record what is currently known of its habitat and behaviour, and (4) discuss the taxonomic characters and generic placement of the species. -

INTRODUCTION When the genus Jagiello BÁLINT et WOJTUSIAK, 2000 was described from Peru, it was pointed out that BROWN (1993: 47) speculated that one of the charac teristics typifying the Neotropical lycaenid fauna is the large potential number of monotypic genera (BÁLINT & WOJTUSIAK 2000: 186). A brief review was pre sented demonstrating that, previously, only four Neotropical lycaenid butterfly genera were considered to be monotypic. Interestingly, subsequent to BROWN's paper, JOHNSON and his coworkers described thirty-nine eumaeine lycaenid but terfly genera in 1997 and none of them were indicated as monotypic (JOHNSON, AUSTIN etal. 1997, JOHNSON & CONSTANTINO 1997, JOHNSON & LE CROM 1997, JOHNSON, KRUSE et al. 1997, JOHNSON & SALAZAR-ESCOBAR 1997, SALAZAR- ESCOBAR & JOHNSON 1997). Thus it can be supposed that most of the potentially monotypic genera referred to by BROWN remained undescribed, if BROWN'S spec ulation was credible. -

The new genus is placed in the Micandra geneeric group based on its wing venation trait. The closest relatives of Ianusanta are those belonging to the Brevianta and Micandra genera, from which the new genus differs because of their dorsal wing coloration , androconia, and internal structures. The nomenclatorical and taxonomic history of the genus is presented. Annamaria D'ABRERA et BÁLINT, 2001 - Lamasina ROBBINS, 2002, new synonym is established. A key for the six species re cognised in three species groups is given on the basis of head, androconia and ventral pattern charac ters: Columbia group: A. Columbia sp. n. (type locality: Colombia, Santa Fé de Bogotá); ganimedes group: A. draudti (LATHY, 1926), A. ganimedes (CRAMER, 1775) and A. lathyi sp. n. The lectotype for Thecla nobilis HERRICH-SCHÄFFER, 1853 is designated. Pierce & Robin Hopkins Shayla Salzman The ecology and evolution of cycads and their symbionts ABSTRACT Interactions among species are responsible for generating much of the biodiversity that we see today, yet coevolved associations with high species specificity are rare in nature and have sometimes been considered to be evolutionary dead ends. The plant order Cycadales is among the most ancient lineages of seed plants, and the tissues of all species are highly toxic. Cycads exhibit many specialized interactions, making them ideal for analyzing the causes and consequences of symbiotic relationships. In Chapter 1, I characterize the pollination mutualism between Zamia furfuracea cycads and their Rhopalotria furfuracea weevil pollinators.
