SUNDAY 27th APRIL 2008 OFFA'S DYKE PATH ()

A WALK This is a circular walk starting at Clun. We set off south over Clun Hill to Menutton and Pantre. We then turn east towards Pentre Hodre then south and west to Stow Hill. We continue west until we reach Five Turnings and shortly afterwards we join Offas Dyke. Here we turn north and remain on the Dyke until the far side of Llanfair Hill. There we turn east and return to Clun via Jack Mytton Way. DISTANCE: 25.8km (16miles) 22 POINTS ASCENT 915m (3000ft) B PLUS WALK Starting at Colebatch, 1 mile south of Bishops Castle, we take field paths northwest via Woodhouse, Upper Woodbatch to Bishop's Moat. A short lane brings us Crinkling Wood and the River Unk which we follow until we meet the Offa's Dyke Path. Taking the Path south to Bryndrinog (tap, fresh water), then its lane and path northeast to Hollybush. We take Mardu Lane until we join the Way which we follow into Clun. DISTANCE: 21.7km (13½ miles) 17 POINTS ASCENT 520m (1700ft) B MINUS WALK From Clun Castle we walk northwest on the Shropshire Way, and west to Whitcott Keysett , to join the Offa's Dyke Path, east of Newcastle. We continue south, crossing the River Clun, and ascend 200 metres to Spoad Hill. We follow the undulating ridge to a footpath northwest of Garbett Hall, and head northeast through Upper Treverward, and on to pick up the Jack Mytton Way, heading east to Clun. DISTANCE: 17.7km (11 miles) 14 POINTS ASCENT 395m (1300ft)

C WALK From Colebatch on the A488 south of Bishops Castle we walk northwest then southwest on the Shropshire Way. From Reilth Farm two shortish road stretches take us via Shadwell Hall to Three Gates where we turn southeast over the Cefns ridge and down to Clun. Stiles and gates are a feature of the walk! DISTANCE: 14km (8½ miles) 10½ POINTS ASCENT 325m (1050ft) Please keep behind your leader at all times
