Though some children entering PCIT may have already received a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or oppositional defiant disorder, a psychiatric diagnosis isn’t necessary for treatment. The therapy isn’t right for everyone. Psychologists say that children who have been sexually abused by caregivers, and parents who have low IQ, serious mental illness or substance abuse issues are better served by programmes that tackle those underlying problems first. Because of PCIT’s time demands, parents have to be motivated. “The parent has to be organised enough to make a weekly outpatient therapy appointment,” Loya says. “That kind of sounds like a given. But for a lot of folks, that’s not the case.” Psychologists say that the consequences of untreated behaviour 4 PLUS | THURSDAY 26 DECEMBER 2013 WHEELS Toyota unveils new tagline

The very first mention of Freiha seems to have appeared in a map drawn by the famous Danish voyager Carsten Niebuhr after his voyage in Arabian Gulf in 1765. The occurrence of the city name as Feraha in Niebuhr’s map is a clear indication that Freiha had existed as a port city before the existence of the neighbouring cities such as Zubara. However, archaeological survey conducted by British at the end of the year 1973 and the begin- ning of the year 1974 has indicated that Freiha city was most probably establish during the twelfth century AD and survived until the early years of the twentieth century. New treatment brings hope for malaria patients

n view of increasing cases of malaria treat- Iment failures reported across the globe, scien- tists have now identified a way to stop malaria parasites from multiplying, raising hope for a new malaria treatment. A team of scientists led by Ed Tate, of the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College, London, have shown that blocking the activity of an enzyme called NMT in plasmodium fal- ciparum, the most common malaria parasite, prevents mice from showing malaria symptoms and also extends their lifespan. NMT is involved in a wide range of essen- tial processes in the parasite cell, including the production of proteins that enable malaria to be transmitted between humans and mosquitoes, and proteins that enable malaria to cause long- term infection, said the study. Many with “Finding an enzyme that can be targeted effec- tively in malaria can be a big challenge. Here, we’ve shown not only why NMT is essential for a wide range of important processes in the parasite, diabetes but also that we can design molecules that stop it from working during infection,” Tate said. “It has so many functions that we think block- ing it could be effective at preventing long-term unaware of disease and transmission, in addition to treating acute malaria,” he added. Note that the class rating shows a minimum speed, not the actual speed. A good Class 2 card may work faster than a Class 6 or even a Class 10 card. The only way to find the real performance of a card is to run a benchmark test. Also bear in mind that megabytes per second -- MBps, usually written as MB/s on cards -- are eight times faster than megabits per second (Mbps), because there are 8 bits in a byte. A 2MBps card is a 16Mbps card. Finally, SD card speeds are sometimes cited as “100x Speed” or whatever. This is somewhat akin to measuring things in football fields or areas the size of Wales. It’s based on the speed of an original CD-Rom drive: 150 KBps. You will recall that you ended up with a 16x or 48x CD-Rom drive, and you can extend the idea to 48x or 400x SD cards. I don’t find this a particularly useful way of rating SD cards, unless your camera manufacturer specifies 50x or 100x cards, or whatever.

HYPER SUDOKU How to play Kakuro: The kakuro grid, unlike in sudoku, can be of any size. It has rows and columns, and dark cells like in a crossword. And, just like in a crossword, some of the dark cells will contain numbers. Some cells will contain two numbers. However, in a crossword the numbers reference clues. In a kakuro, the numbers are all you get! They denote the total of the digits in the row or column referenced by the number. Within each collection of cells - called a run - any of the numbers 1 to 9 may be used but, like sudoku, each number may only be used once.
