Conscience -The Voice Within

Do you remember those things your mother used to say, such as " Birds of a feather flock together" or "Pride goeth before a fall "? Probably she said them so many times they pop into your mind automatically in certain situa- tions. Your mother was smart. She knew that if she repeated it often enough, somehow it would stick and rise up as a dictate of conscience to guide you later on. Do what your mother did. Don't pay attention when your child wiggles his/her nose and pretend not to hear. He/ she does. Those little guiding principles are slowly but surely stored away in his/her little mind, to pop up at the most inconvenient times! God's word is the best con- science builder of all. Fill your child's mind with Bible stories and memory verses. Use Bible passages as key thoughts. As your child grows older, help him/her find guidance for puzzling things in God's Word. Teach your children that "conscience is a safe guide as long as the guide of conscience is safe!" "If we will live in communion with God, we too may expect the divine Spirit to mold our little ones, even from their earliest moments." (The Desire of Ages ,p. 512) - How to Help Your Child Really Love Jesus, p. 61,62

Health Nugget, Can I Get Vitamin D From the Sun?: The body makes Vitamin D when the skin is directly exposed to the sun, and most people meet at least some of their Vitamin D needs this way. Skin exposed to sun- shine indoors through a window will not produce Vitamin D. Cloudy days, shade, and having dark-coloured skin also cut down on the amount of Vita- min D the skin makes. However, despite the importance of the sun to Vitamin D synthesis, it is prudent to limit exposure of the skin to sunlight in order to lower the risk of skin cancer. When out in the sun for more than a few minutes, wear protective clothing and apply sunscreen with an SPF (sun pro- tection factor) of 8 or more. Tanning beds also cause the skin to make Vita- min D, but pose similar risks for skin cancer. People who avoid the sun or who cover their bodies with sunscreen or clothing should include good sources of Vitamin D in their diets or take supplement. Recommended in- takes of Vitamin D are set on the assumption of little sun exposure. (to be continued) Source: National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements

From the Family Life Department: In our quest to support families in build- ing a strong spiritual foundation, the Family Life Department will once again be having prayer for families of the church included in the dedicatory prayer dur- ing the Divine Worship service and throughout the following week. The name of the family to be prayed for each Sabbath will be placed in the bulletin one week prior. We are kindly asking that as far as possible, all members of the family be in church on the day you will be prayed for so we can invite you to the front. We also encourage you to invite your family members who do not regularly attend church to come and be included in the prayer. It is our hope that each family can be present on the day they are to be prayed for. Howev- er, if your family is unable to be present on their designated date, the church will still pray for you during the service and will uphold you in prayer during the week. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in this endeavour. 6 Announcements

The theme for this year’s Family Life Team is “Revival of the Family.” We believe that families are the spiritual foundation of this church and we want to encourage all of us to continue to build up our various families. The Family Life Team is encouraging all families to spend time together during the Feb 15-17 Family Day Weekend! Families come in different shapes and sizes, but it is whomever you call your family that counts. We will be providing a booklet of ideas that you can do with your family; for those of you that needed a little help! The booklets will be available in the church foyer or you can see a member of the Family Life Team. It is also Valentine’s Day Weekend, so do not forget to spend time with your significant other! Please take a photo/selfie of the family and send it in to [email protected] or share it on our church Instagram page. All photos will be entered into a draw for a prize!! Have fun and get snapping! Family Life Tip: The Black History Month activities in February are very family friendly, so sign up before spots are gone and plan to participate in all the various activities throughout the month!

Men’s Corner 1 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

While our outward bodies (outward man) are worn with fatigue, labour, and sorrow; it’s not so with the inward man. The inward man is re- newed and revived by God daily. As we spend more and more time in the Word and in prayer, we receive a daily increase of spiritual strength, purity, and consolation. The final thought from Paul in 1 Timothy 4:8, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
