13 THINGS TO KNOW: 1. Thursday’s contest will be the first NHL regular-season game played at Little Caesars Arena. The game will mark the first time the Wild has served as the opponent for an arena’s first game. The Wild opened its home arena, Xcel Energy Center, with a 3-3 tie vs. on Oct. 11, 2000.

2. The Wild posted an all-time record of 8-17-3 in 28 games at Joe Louis Arena since its debut on Dec. 27, 2000. Minnesota has earned at least one point in four of its last five trips (2-1-2) to Detroit since March 20, 2013. Overall, Minnesota has secured at least one point in eight of its last 10 games (5-2-3) against the Red Wings, with seven of those contests decided by one goal.

3. Minnesota has posted a record of 9-5-2 all-time in season openers (including a tie in 2001-02). Minnesota dropped a 3-2 decision in St. Louis to open last season but is 4-1-1 in its last six season openers dating back to 2011-12. Thursday marks the first time Minnesota will face Detroit in a season opener, and just the fourth time in franchise history the Wild faces an Eastern Conference opponent (Carolina, 2010; Boston, 2008 and 2002).

4. Minnesota starts the year as the road team for the seventh time in team history – the first time in franchise history the Wild has opened on the road for three straight seasons. Minnesota is 1-4-1 in season openers as the road team, going 8-1-1 all-time when opening the season as the home team (including a loss vs. Carolina to start the 2010-11 season in Helsinki, Finland).

5. Minnesota has posted an all-time 84-55-26 record for the month of October, including a 25-11-6 record in the last four seasons – the third-fewest October losses in the NHL since 2013. Since its inception in 2000, the Wild ranks third amongst NHL teams for October win percentage (.611), fourth in October points (187), and T-5th in October wins. Wild lead the NHL since 2000 in October shutouts (17) and goals-against/game (2.44), and rank second in save percentage (.915).

6. The Wild set franchise records for most wins (49) and points (106) in a single season in 2016-17 (49-25-8). Minnesota also advanced to the for the fifth straight season in 2016-17 – the longest streak in franchise history. The Wild is one of six NHL teams to qualify for the playoffs in each of the last five seasons: Anaheim, Chicago, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

7. Tyler Ennis turns 28 Friday. He joined the Wild after being acquired alongside forward Marcus Foligno and a third-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft from Buffalo in exchange for forward , defenseman and a fourth-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft on June 30. Ennis grew up in Edmonton with Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon and the close friends were working out together this summer when Ennis received the call that he had been traded to Minnesota. Ennis totaled 13 points (5-8=13) in 51 games with the Sabres last season, missing 30 games with a groin injury.

8. Marcus Foligno agreed to a four-year, $11.5 million contract with the Wild on Sept 14 after being acquired on June 30. Last season, Foligno registered 23 points (13-10=23) and ranked fifth in the NHL with a career-high 279 hits in 80 games with Buffalo. He also set career highs in goals and blocked shots (57). He is the younger brother of Columbus captain Nick Foligno.

9. Matt Cullen returns to the Wild after posting 101 points (33-68=101) in 193 games during three seasons with the club (2010-13), including his 1,000th NHL game on Jan. 10, 2012. The 40-year-old native of Virginia, Minn., returns to the Wild for his 20th NHL season after agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract on Aug. 16. Last season, Cullen won his second consecutive Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh, posting 31 points (13-18=31) in 72 games and winning 51.2% of faceoffs with a 13:55 TOI/game average before adding nine points (2-7=9) and a 56.4% faceoff win percentage in 25 playoff games. Cullen also won a Stanley Cup alongside teammate Eric Staal with Carolina in 2006. He ranks sixth amongst active NHL players in games played and has won more than 50% of faceoffs taken in every season since 2003-04, scoring at least 10 goals in 15-of-19 seasons.

10. Devan Dubynk is one win away from his 100th victory in a Wild sweater. Since his first game with Minnesota on Jan. 15, 2015, Dubnyk is 99-54-13 with a 2.17 GAA, .924 SV% and 15 shutouts in 171 games – leading the NHL in games played, ranking second in wins, shutouts and SV%, and T-3rd in GAA in that span amongst NHL goalies with at least 65 games played. Last season, he posted career highs and franchise records with 40 wins, a 10-game win streak and a 14-game point streak.

11. Mikko Koivu agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract extension with the Wild on Sept. 18 after representing Minnesota at the 2017 NHL Awards this summer as a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy. Minnesota’s captain posted 58 points (18-40=58) in 80 games last season, ranking T-8th in the NHL with a career-high plus-27 rating. The 34-year-old ranked fifth in the NHL in faceoff wins (938), sixth in faceoffs taken (1,699) and 16th in faceoff win percentage (55.2%). He also ranked T-16th amongst NHL forwards with a career-high 65 blocked shots.

12. Mikael Granlund agreed to a three-year, $17.25 million contract on Aug. 1 after representing the Wild at the 2017 NHL Awards as a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. The 25-year-old totaled 69 points (26-43=69) in 81 games with the Wild last season, ranking T-4th in franchise history for most points by a Wild player in a single season and leading the team in points, assists and multi- point games (16), T-1st in PPP (20), second in goals and PPG (7), T-3rd in GWG (4), fourth in shots on goal (177) and fifth in plus/minus rating (+23). He set career highs in goals, assists, points, plus/minus rating, PPG, PPA (13), PPP, shorthanded goals (3), shots on goal, TOI/game (18:49) and multi-point games.

13. Nino Niederreiter agreed to a five-year, $26.25 million contract on July 30. The 25-year-old posted 57 points (25-32=57) as one of four players to appear in all 82 games with the Wild last season – setting career highs in points, goals, assists, plus/minus rating (+17), PIM (53), PPG (8), PPA (6), PPP (14), shots (186) and multi-point games (14).
