Health & Safety: Traffic Concerns: Moyglass National School

Following extensive consultation with the Board of Management, Principal, Staff and Parents’ Association we have been advised to make our concerns known to all relevant bodies. For this reason we are sending written documentation to you re serious concerns raised and wishes of all bodies to help sort major traffic issues at Moyglass National School before a serious incident occurs.

 The need for continuous (all day) flashing speed monitoring signs either side of the school. (signs that identify speed limit and what speed drivers are driving at.)  Extra signage either side of the school to highlight the fact that one is approaching a school.  Road markings to be re-done plus double yellow no parking line to be put in certain areas (especially at priests entrance).  Parking area across from school to be properly marked to help with more efficient parking.  Street lighting to be put outside school.  Footpaths outside school need to be re-done for children’s safety.  Ditches to be cut back and road to be widened at certain areas to help traffic flow and visibility.

We are aware that meetings have taken place between the school and members of Co. Council (many times over the years) but the urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. The situation of the school on the brow of a hill with no clear long distance vision has always been a concern. We would appreciate if you would deal with this issue as a matter of priority and we look forward to receiving a favourable response.

Yours sincerely

Jim O’ Meara Michael Hayes Chairperson Principal Board of Management Moyglass N.S. Moyglass N.S.
