Thad Oren, a UCF student who has been comatose since a fight Oct. 7, is showing some signs of improvement. Oren's father, Paul, said his son has opened one eye and moved his arm. "We've been showing him pictures of things he's done in the past," he said Tuesday. Oren, who has been comatose since the day of the incident, was transferred to Hardee Memorial Hospital in Wauchula, F1a., . ) Oren was originally admitted to Orlando Regional Medical Center the day of the incident when an assailant knocked him to the ground, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on the pavement. Norm Sloan, basketball coach at the Univer sity ofFlorida, has finally gotten his ass fired, as he so eloquently put it. The University of Florida football and bas ketball programs, expected to fly high this sea son, have instead crashed and burned, leaving few survivors. In less than a month, they lost Sloan, who "retired" due to questions about how much money his players received-actually, the an swers were the problem-head football coach Galen Hall, who fled after he admitted helping out his coaches and a player financially, and four football players who were betting $25 to $100 per week on pro and college games. Which raises another question. Where the heck did those players get the cash to drop on the games? We're lucky if we can scrape up $100 extra a week among the whole staff. What is 'hairgazm'? - a un~que beauty boutique that caters to the rich and famous as well as local Orlando residents.

HOSE OF YOU READING THIS ARTICLE IN THE hope of finding something tasteless and disgusting to peruse during one of your more boring classes will un T doubtably be disappointed. H a i r - gazm is a legitimate hair salon. All the way from its pink neon sign to the hair clip pings on the floor. You may be asking yourself why someone would use a name like this? What exact- ly does it mean? The name was used in order to call attention to the store and to suggest it specializes in exotic hairstyles. The technical meaning according to owner Betty Brown is "maximum hair care service." The Orlando Sentinel rated Hairgazm's name the most unique in the hair business. The salon is located on Orange Blossom Trail which may add to the sexual or sleezy connotations surround ing the name. It was formerly known as Universal Hair but has been • known as Hairgazm for approx imately ten years. Brown claims the things they can do at Hairgazm surpass any normal haircut. The climatic control cut, a cut where one side of the hair is uneven to the other, is one of Brown's specialties. As she would say, it is very "gazmatic." Ifyou are lucky enough to have your hair done by Brown you will surely receive professional treat ment. She has been in the styling business for 24 years. Brown has traveled far and wide to do many fa • mous people's hair. 0 see HAIRGAZM page 4 • 0 t story by John Hubbard art by D. Cunningham
