PAC-10 ATHLETES HEAD TO NCAA PRELIMINARIES IN OREGON

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field West Preliminary Champi- onship will take place in Eugene, Ore., this Thursday through Saturday, May 26-28. The will host the event at . 321 Pac-10 athletes are scheduled to compete this week.

Here’s a breakdown of the number of Pac-10 student-athletes declared for competition this weekend: ARIZONA - 15 men, 25 women ARIZONA STATE - 17 men, 14 women CALIFORNIA - 11 men, 21 women OREGON - 23 men, 23 women OREGON STATE - 2 women STANFORD - 23 men, 19 women UCLA - 23 men, 12 women USC - 14 men, 11 women WASHINGTON - 21 men, 13 women WASHINGTON STATE - 19 men, 15 women

2011 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS... The top 12 !nishers in each event from each of the two Preliminary Championship sites (Eugene, Ore., and Bloomington, Ind.) automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. This year’s national championships will be held June 8-11 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS... Oregon swept both the men’s and women’s team titles at the 2011 Pac-10 Track and Field Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. The women entered the !nal event with a 2.5-point lead over Arizona, and won the 4x400-meter relay to secure their third-straight championship with 154.5 points to the Wildcats’ 150. On the men’s side, the Ducks tallied 129 points to win their !fth-consecutive team title. It is the third- straight year Oregon has claimed both titles.
