Apr 1 1 2013 RECEIVED .APR 1 1 2013 PLANNING DEPT; THOUSANDS OF MALfBU RESIDENTS SIGNATURES (ALONG WITH GLOBAL T~URfSTS} SUPPORTING INDEPENDENT BUSINESS RETAIL REQUIREMENTS AND FORMULA BUSINESS ORDINANCE To: The City of Malibu Protect our Community: Preserve the Soul of Malibu just signed the following petition addressed to: The City Officials of Malibu. Preserve the Soul of Malibu! We citizens and friends of Malibu are deeply concerned about the direction Malibu commercial retail centers are going. We are committed to preserving the .natural, rustic beauty- of Malibu for generations to come, other than the expensive shops and ritzy chain-store malls developers are bringing in. We ask the City to put immediately into policy a fair and intelligent plan for the future of commercial developments that protects the essential nature of Malibu's low key, inviting beach community. Our immediate goal regarding- Malibu commercial centers is to ask City. Hall to use planning tools such as the following: 1. every commercial development is consistent with the Malibu General Plan and zoning codes, 2. the city close existing loopholes in zoning codes and tighten permits, 3. our city puts into policy and enforces a balanced, intelligent plan that ensures a diversity of community-serving-businesses and upholds the character of Malibu's rural environment, 4. planning is implemented that protects and encourages small retail businesses that citizens considered vital to this city, 5. a plan to manage and limit future chain establishments is achieved. Existing chains will not be affected. (excluded are: banks, real estate offices, gas stations, etc.) s~aM ~~ a7 P~.~S£,~~~ Mg~,¢~ We are citizens and friends of Malibu, asking our representatives to create and enforce a clear plan for a livable commercial future of our city-that is consistent with Malibu's General Plan and Mission Statement along with the vision of this community -not just reflective of developers' financial interests. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES OFFICE OF THE SURGEON GENERAL In re: Ban of Live Animal Markets Docket No. __ PETITION FOR RULEMAKING SUBMITTED TO VADM Jerome M. Adams, MD, MPH Office of the Surgeon General U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 200 Independence Avenue SW Humphrey Building, Suite 701H Washington, DC 20201 [email protected] RESPOND TO Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine 5100 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Suite 400 Washington, DC 20016 [email protected] DATE April 7, 2020 INTRODUCTION Recurrent worldwide infections—seasonal influenza, SARS, MERS, and now COVID-19— cause massive mortality and economic damage. These epidemics have specific causes that have remained neglected. Poultry flocks are breeding grounds for influenza A viruses, and live animal markets are the source of coronavirus. Because these pathogens and others like them will continue to cause massive health challenges unless urgent action is taken, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) now calls for a ban on live animal markets.1 Therefore, we petition the Surgeon General to “prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of communicable diseases”2 by prohibiting the operation of live animal markets in the United States and working with international bodies to harmonize this policy worldwide. FACTUAL BACKGROUND Influenza A is an avian virus. Beginning with the 1918 H1N1 “Spanish influenza” (if not before), all influenza A outbreaks have come originally from bird viruses that have found their way into domesticated animal populations and, from there, into farmworkers, their contacts, and the broader community. The H1N1 virus killed millions of people.

She made her breakthrough as a photographer with portraits of Hollywood celebrities such as Liza Minelli, Drew Barrymore, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, and many more. These images appeared in numerous prestigious periodicals including Time, Wired, Entertainment Weekly, and Rolling Stone. An early adopter of digital effects, Greenberg has developed a world that is more intense, and razorsharp than the one we live in. Her portraits seize our attention, creating an altered universe that stares back at us. Her ‘End Times’ series encompasses beautifully photographed, poignant images suffused with political and personal relevance. Greenberg’s subject at that time was taboo: children in pain. She utilized this uncomfortable imagery as a way of breaking through the pop mainstream to participate in a growing national dialogue of the real dangers facing the world. In 2001, Greenberg turned her lens on celebrities of a different sort: monkeys and apes, many of which had appeared on film and television. These brilliant portraits were warmly received, and paved the way for photographs of a wide range of other animals, including bears and horses. Constructing outdoor studios in Calgary and Vancouver, Greenberg photographed different species of bear, including grizzlies, black bears and a polar bear.

  • Bibliography of Sinclair Community College Scholars
Bibliography of Sinclair Community College Scholars December 2018 (Ninth Edition) Editors: Joyce Barnes, Connie Beal, Adrienne Cassel (Chair), Ribhi Daoud, and Susan Harris With a special thank you to Sally Struthers for her dedication to the founding and continuation of this project. ii INTRODUCTION TO THE NINTH EDITION Since 2008, Sinclair Community College has been publishing a bibliography honoring faculty members across the disciplines for their research and scholarship efforts. This year, the ninth edition has grown to over 100 pages of presentations and publications from faculty from across many disciplines and all the divisions. I am delighted to oversee these efforts. These scholars represent Sinclair across the country - and internationally - presenting their research at scholarly conferences, publishing articles and books, and other scholarly and creative products. Their work strengthens the quality of teaching that takes place at Sinclair and enriches the intellectual community. Beginning in 2015, in addition to publishing a Faculty Scholars Bibliography, the Faculty Scholars Committee began selecting one faculty member to be honored as Distinguished Faculty Scholar of the year. The recipient of this award is selected through an extensive application and review process. In addition to evidence of scholarship, applicants are required to submit letters of recommendation that highlight national recognition for their work. Their extensive accomplishments as writers, scholars, curators, artists, and teachers are an inspiration to all of us. The reviewing committee for the 2018 edition and the Distinguished Faculty Scholar Award includes Joyce Barnes (Developmental Language Arts), Connie Beal (Nursing), Adrienne Cassel (English), Ribhi Daoud (Economics), and Susan Harris (Math), and Julie McDaniel (Library) – representing all four Sinclair Academic Divisions and the Sinclair Library.
