Restricted 98.7% $164.7

Your unrestricted gift is important. 1.3% of all private gifts to IUF are given without restrictions on how they will be used. An unrestricted gift gives Indiana University the latitude to direct gift funds to where they are most needed. It allows the university to take advantage of unexpected opportunities that occur after state budgets are set.

The key is to grow the portfolio over the long term. This goal has led the IU Foundation, as the steward of Indiana University!s investment portfolio, to emphasize an equity bias as the way to participate in long-term economic growth around the world. Diversification continues to be a valuable risk-reducing tool, which leads to investments in other assets as well. For example, an allocation to fixed income offers stability, while exposure to real assets provides a level of inflation protection.

The equity, fixed income, and alternative investment categories are owned within the investment portfolio, while cash is typically held separately.

TOTAL $544.8 Pledges $126.5

Not all gifts for Indiana University show up in the year-end totals. Many are not cash-in-hand, but rather are commitments to give in the future. The most obvious are Annual Fund pledges, but these "promises to give" also include bequests, life insurance, outside trusts and other planned giving arrangements. This chart reflects the total value of all such gifts where the donor has communicated his or her intentions to give.
