Dear Parent/Guardian It Is with Great Pleasure That I Write to You Regarding Some Exciting

July 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian
It is with great pleasure that I write to you regarding some exciting developments we are currently implementing at Morecambe Community High School relating to our pastoral system. Pastoral leaders have been reflecting over the course of the year, reading the latest research and visiting a number of schools to ensure that we develop our pastoral support in a manner that best serves our students, parents and staff. The support system will have a clear structure.
- A first point of contact for everyone responsible for supporting individual students

- A clear structure of support to enable incisive communication between all those responsible for supporting students

Students will be spoken to in special assemblies on Monday July 17th that will explain in detail why we are developing our pastoral system, what this will look like and how they will be further supported throughout their time with us at MCHS. Students will be arriving home on Monday with a letter explaining where their key pastoral support will be coming from. The information below outlines the key roles within our Pastoral System from September.
The Progress Tutor
The Progress Tutor will be the first point of contact for parents and staff regarding any issues concerning individual students. Pastoral leaders have spent a significant amount of time moving students into Progress Groups that will be Year based rather than having students from different year groups within it. This will allow Progress Tutors to become experts on specific issues that relate to year groups, such as GCSE options, curriculum content and examination preparation. Students will see their Progress Tutor at the start of each day for fifteen minutes. Progress Tutors will monitor a number of aspects of a student’s progress including attendance, rewards, sanctions and academic progress.
Progress Leader and Assistant Progress Leader
These two members of staff will have an overview of a whole year group and monitor aspects such as attendance, rewards, sanctions and academic progress. They will liaise closely with Heads of Faculty toensure that the best possible learning is taking place and progress is being made in all classes within the year group.
LINC Staff
Each Progress Team, will have a member of our non-teaching 'LINC' staff attached to them. These members of staff will be in a position to respond to issues that may arise during the day. On occasions our teachingstaff may not be able to respond immediately due to their teaching commitments. They will also work to support students with issues that may require on-going input and monitoring.
AIM staff
Each Progress Team will also have an Attendance Improvement Managerattached to them who will work to support improving attendance.
Progress Teams will support students from Year 8 through to 11 so that relationships, trust and communication can be developed and sustained throughout a student’s time in school. Year 7 will be supported by a specialist team trained to manage thetransition from Primary to Secondary School. Further information is now available on our website and should you have any questions relating to our new structures then please do not hesitate to contactMr Armitstead (Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour) via the contact button on the school website.
We look forward to working together and ensuring that our school is the best it can be. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very happy summer holiday.
Yours sincerely

Mr M Auger
