Textbook: Tan4 Applied Math for Managerial, Life, and Social Sciences, Fourth edition.

Intermediate Algebra by Gustafson/Fisk.

Topics covered: Functions, System of linear equations, and probability and statistics.

Prerequisites: Familiar with math 097, solving linear and quadratic equations, be exposed to properties

Of exponents, graphing, simple algebraic manipulations including fraction expressions.

Course Objectives: * Have developed the basic math skills needed to solve applied problems particularly in business and economics. Skills include graphing elementary functions, maximizing and minimizing quadratic functions, algebraic manipulation of exponential and logarithmic expressions, solutions of systems of linear equations, matrix manipulation, and simple computations in probability and statistics.

*Be able to set up math models to represent real world simulations in business and economics. Students should have a sufficient understanding of a concept of a function to create their own models using polynomials, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. *be ready for further study in applied math, including business calculus.

Course content: Functions, System of linear equations and matrices, probability and statistics.

Attendance: Good attendance is 1.5% of your grade

Grades: Attendance, 3 Tests(100), Final(100), homework and quizzes. Grade is average of points.

Quizzes are from homework

Missed Final is automatic failure for course.

Missed Test must be documented from an outside source or a zero is given.

Makeups: Test may be more difficult and must be made up within 1 week.

Miss a quiz and next counts double.

Calculators: Some graphing problems have no graphing calculators allowed .
