Motion re Branch Honoraria

The Branch Committee has agreed a proposal regards an increase to honoraria payments made to some branch officer posts.

It has been many years since these payments have been reviewed. Whilst some of the roles remain the same, i,e, supporting members in an equalities or welfare capacity, the role of the senior branch officers (Branch Secretary, Chair, Service Conditions Officers with case work responsibilities, Convenors and Senior Stewards) has grown enormously - with extra responsibilities and pressure from both the employer and UNISON nationally.

The Branch Committee is asking the Annual General Meeting to accept these revised honoraria payments.

Revised Honoraria proposals

Post Present Proposed

amount

Branch Secretary £125.00 (£500)

Asst Secretary £125.00 (£150)

Chair £125.00 (£250)

Vice Chair £62.50 (£62.50)

Service Conditions Officer £125.00 (£200)

Treasurer £1,010.74 (£1,010.74)

Asst Treasurer £505.37 (£505.37)

H&S Officer £125.00 (£125)

Welfare Officers (2 posts) £250.00 each (£250) each

Equalities Officer £125.00 (£125)

Communications Officer £125.00 (£75)

Black Members Officer £62.50 (£62.50)

LGB&T Officer £62.50 (£62.50)

Disablities Officer £62.50 (£62.50)

Womens Officer £62.50 (£62.50)

Education Co-Ordinator £125.00 (£125)

Branch Auditors (2 posts) £648.94 and 312.50 respectively

Life Long Learning Officer £125.00 (£125)

Departmental Convenors

Adult Social Care and Health £125.00 (£200)

Children and Young People £125.00 (£200)

Resources £125.00 (£200)

Place £125.00 (£200)

Senior Stewards (with cover time) £62.50 (£125)

Allowing for a total of 10 senior stewards the full cost would equate to:-

Present costs are £5540.05

proposed costs would be £7065.05

an increase of £1525

……continued

The overall increase will fall below the full increased costings figure as some individuals hold more than one post, however honoraria can only be paid for one post within a branch not multiple officer postions.

(For example if someone held the position of Communications Officer and was also a departmental convenor they would only receive honoraria for the post attracting the higher level of honoraria).

Motion re Derby Teaching Assistants strike action

Nottinghamshire County UNISON offers its full support to the Derby Teaching Assistants in their dispute with the Derby City Council to stop wages being reduced by up to 25% and their contracts being rewritten.

Nottinghamshire Unison is outraged and condemns the actions of Derby City Council. We recognise that Derby City has faced massive cuts due to the Tory Government; however it should be taking the fight to them, not attacking local workers’ pay. It should also be working with Unison about the matter. We call on other Unison branches to join us in asking that the Unison NEC condemn the Council’s actions, which are bringing the relationship between the local, regional and national Labour Party and Unison into disrepute and damaging the Labour Party’s electoral credibility amongst the low paid in this region."
