Course Description : The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the Mystery of Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, the second Person of the Blessed Trinity. In this course students will understand that Jesus Christ is the ultimate revelation to us from God. In learning about who He is, the students will also learn who He calls them to be. The Textbook MUST be brought to every class beginning this week but NO LATER than August 26.

Classroom Procedures:  Enter the classroom respectfully.  Be in your assigned seat when the second bell rings  Assigned seats are to be used at all times unless you are told otherwise  Take out all required materials for the day (posted on the board)  If you need to leave the room before the bell rings to begin class, please notify me.  Reminder: NO food or drinks other than bottled water may be brought into the classroom.  Items on or around the instructor’s desk and computer desk may not be touched, used, or read without permission of the instructor.  Personal grooming may not be conducted in class (combing or brushing hair, application of hair product, lotion, make-up, etc.)  Maintain silence during prayers and announcements, lectures and as instructed  Begin bell work after prayer  Remain seated during class: the wastebasket, pencil sharpener and hand sanitizer may be used before or after class, not during class.  Request permission to leave seat if necessary (e.g. tissues, pencil breaks, etc.), and leave your seat discreetly  Raise your hand for permission to speak during class discussions/lecture  Hand in paperwork such as attendance slips and grade checks before class starts to be picked up after class  Two Minute Countdown will be announced and you will be dismissed when it is time to leave  Collecting of homework and distributing of papers will be done on a rotating basis to be reviewed in class  Reading from the text will be done on a volunteer basis or by popcorn reading.  Participation requires that you are actively engaged – paying attention, answering questions, sharing your thoughts. It does not include sleeping in class, disruptive behavior (included but not limited to comments directed at other students or unrelated to the topic) or lack of preparedness.  Homework should be completed before class begins; homework done in class will be late.

Absences:  Work must be made up within 1 week of student’s absence, this includes tests and quizzes.  Quizzes and tests must be made up after school

In the event of an excused absence, all work may be made up by the student. A “While You Were Out” sheet will be completed by the student behind any absent student “While You Were Out” sheets will be in the class’ absent folder to be picked up by the student If you know you will be out, notify me in advance so that I may prepare the assignments and due dates for you. If you are absent the day of a group assignment or presentation, please make arrangements with your group or notify me so that your group may be given an extension Please refer to your “Lancer Life” for the school’s attendance policy

Assignments:  Written assignments are to be completed on loose-leaf notebook paper – three hole punched 8 ½” x11”  All assignments are to be labeled as follows on the left hand side of the paper:

Assignments not turned in at the designated time are considered late. Assignments not labeled properly, completed on torn paper or missing a name or assignment title will not be graded until corrected Homework Assignments are announced and posted in class and posted on the Class Webpage. Up to 5 Points for each in-class assignment may be deducted for not having the required materials.

Late Work:  Students may turn in 2 late assignment per 7 week grading period ONLY - 6 assignments per semester (The only exceptions are study guides and project)  Late work receives a maximum of 80% credit and must be turned in within 1 week of being assigned

Late work will ONLY be accepted for full credit in extreme circumstances Homework done during review will NOT be collected and must be placed in the “Late Work” bin. Work is counted as late if it is turned in any time after it is collected however, if an assignment is left in a locker – students have 2 minutes from the end of class to turn it in for full credit. If an extension for any written assignment is needed, you may ask for an extension BEFORE the due date. Late work is graded periodically, but before the end of the grading period during which it is assigned.

No Homework Binder:  When homework is not completed, students will be asked to fill in their sheet in the “No Homework Binder”  After 3 times, parents will be contacted (CONTINUED ON REVERSE)

Personal Reflections: Occasionally you will be asked to write personal reflections which I am required by law to read and to report any entries that raise concerns for the safety of you or others. DO NOT write anything that you do not want me to read.

Final Project: Each semester, students will be assigned a project that will involve preparation time outside of class. Late projects are not accepted for full credit. Failure to complete the project will likely result in a low grade in the course.

Quizzes: Scheduled and unannounced quizzes, including reading quizzes will be given through the semester. Students are required to complete all online quizzes, incomplete quizzes will count as a “0”.

Handouts: Handouts cover required class material and should be kept in the student’s binder/folder for classroom use. Handouts will also be available on the class webpage (Schoology

Hall Passes: Hall passes are for emergencies and should be used sparingly. Please notify me if a medical issue is present Use of more than 3 hall passes per semester may result in a reduction of extra credit points Use of more than 5 hall passes will result in a loss of participation points Students who use no hall passes will receive extra credit

Extra Credit: Extra credit is extra - that is, in addition - to the work that has been completed by the student. It is not meant to substitute work that should have been handed in. Occasional assignments and opportunities will be given and calculated at a maximum value of 3% of the student’s overall homework grade at the end of the semester. Extra credit is offered during the entire semester for: bringing in art supplies, tissue boxes and/or hand sanitizer (maximum of 4 of each), maintaining a vocabulary log during the semester
