·  Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri announced its top winners in their essay contest, My Future My Choice. Patrick O’Brien, freshman at Grand Center Arts Academy, was named first place, and Rachel Mueller, freshman at GCAA, was named third place. Both received prizes and recognition from CEAM at an event on February 11 at Saint Louis Science Center.

·  Alive and Well STL, an initiative of St. Louis Regional Health Commission, is filming new promotional ads, and one will feature a second-grade teacher from Aspire Academy, Loreal Wilhite. Filming is scheduled for February 23. Dr. Jim Walters, director of professional learning and teacher support, partners with Alive and Well for Confluence’s work in trauma-informed practices. He recommended Ms. Wilhite as an ambassador to represent Confluence.

·  Grand Center, Inc. broke ground on the new Arts Academy Plaza on February 14. The plaza will be developed in the grassy area on the corner of Grandel Square and Grand Boulevard, across from GCAA. When complete, it will be a park area featuring a sculpture, the Nijinski Hare. Dr. Matt Frederickson, GCAA head of school, attended the groundbreaking with Karin Hagaman, president and CEO of Grand Center, Inc., and Alderwoman Marlene Davis.

·  Confluence Preparatory Academy held its 3rd annual Pink Out games for breast cancer awareness on February 21. CPA set a fundraising goal of $1,000 to make donations to Komen Missouri and American Cancer Society. Both organizations provide information on breast health and care for game patrons. Donation totals will be announced. NOTE: Despite best efforts, the Siteman Cancer Center mammogram van was canceled for lack of appointments.

·  Spend a Day with Confluence is Wednesday, March 15 from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Confluence is hiring certified teachers and administrators for the coming school year. Spend a Day with Confluence includes tours at Confluence Preparatory Academy and Elite Academy, Aspire Academy and Confluence Academy-South City; lunch, conversations with staff and the opportunity for an interview. The event is for those who do not currently work for Confluence or GCAA LEAs; participants must register to attend. An RSVP form is on the Confluence website.
