Course Description

The purpose of this course is to help students imagine and create a positive vision for their futures. Students will create a professional career portfolio that will highlight their academic and personal goals and achievements as well as their Senior Project. This portfolio will be used as a vehicle for the delivery of their Senior Project presentations in May. Students will rehearse speaking and listening techniques to prepare for the portfolio presentations and will gain an understanding of how to use their career portfolio to clarify their academic goals and career plans.

Class Rules and Expectations

Attendance- take the initiative to succeed

  • It is a student’s responsibility to seek the information he/she missed; I will NOT chase after anyone.
  • From home, you can check what work you missed on the class webpage.
  • Upon return from absence, check the make-up mailbox for missed work.
  • As per district policy, except for unusual circumstances, a student will have the number of days he/she was absent from school to complete the missed work, including tests.
  • If a student is going to be absent from class due to a sport, club, or activity, it is his/her responsibility to see me before the start of that school day (do NOT interrupt another class) to see what assignments he/she will miss in class. Failure to do so will result in a late grade for that day’s work. This includes tests and any/all assignments that are due during the absence.

Course Material–act responsibly

  • Be on time for class. In addition to receiving a tardy slip, students who are not on time for class, will not be permitted to use the hall pass that day.
  • Bring all materials to class EVERY day unless I have instructed otherwise (text book, notebook/binder, pencil/pen/highlighter, and independent reading book). NO locker passes will be distributed for forgotten items; instead, you will be considered TARDY to class.
  • First offense = tardy to class
  • Second offenses = tardy to class
  • Third offense – tardy to class and teacher detention
  • subsequent offenses = tardy to class and office referral

* in the event your materials were left at home and cannot be retrieved in your locker and you need to

borrow a pencil or a textbook, your shoe will serve as collateral.

  • Homework is homework the day it is given and is due at the beginning of the next class period. Late homework will NOT be accepted!
  • Lost handouts can be printed by accessing the class webpage and clicking on the link. I will not re-issue handouts.
  • Assignments and projects are due by their assigned date and at the beginning of the period.
  • Late assignments will be given half credit until the end of the 3rd quarter, at which point, all grades will become ZEROES.

Classroom Behavior- practice common sense

  • In Room 101 there is a “ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY” for disrespectful, inappropriate, and/or disruptive behavior!
  • Sleeping = Standing
  • Cheating and Plagiarism = Automatic 0% for that assignment and there will be no opportunity to make-up the lost points.
  • Raise your hand!
  • Do not get out of your seat to dispose of trash or to sharpen pencils in the middle of a lesson - either do so before or after class. If there is an urgent request, raise your hand.
  • Each student will be permitted 1 hall pass per week, so do not asked to be excused unless it is a clear emergency. Students must sign out andcarry the hall pass; failure to do so (or do so incorrectly) will result in loss of the privilege.
  • Address all individual concerns at the beginning or end of class.
  • All purses are to be kept UNDER the desk throughout the class period.
