City Point Neighborhood Association Meeting Minutes 04.10.12

Board Members present: Joanne McDevitt, Ben Rogers , Joe Kelly

Joanne McDevitt called meeting to order and welcomed neighbors, also present were Casey Hines; Tom Butler; Jake Bombard

Officers Halliday, and Boyle from the BPD as well as Sargent Watts and Capt. Greeland were present and Officer Halliday reported several instances of B&Es . There were 35 incidents since the last CPNA . Drug Bust on east 4th street and N Street . On of our members asked for update on Barbara Coyne homicide. Capt. Geeland indicated they have no more information other than what we have seen in the press and the case is now with the DA’s office. C6 has beefed up patrols of bicycle officers in AndrewSquare and on Broadway between Broadway Station and City Point.

Joe Capuccio thanked the police for working with the neighborhood and especially their response to a problem house on East Fourth Street.

Peter Golemne, Chair SBNAC, handed out a questionaire to the members regarding a future meeting to be held with the BRA and our public officials. The questionaire will be used to determine what the community needs for understanding of zoning laws as well as a tool to develop a plan for future zoning in South Boston.

DCR , Karl Pastore, gave an update of cleanup of the beaches, streat cleaning , Memorial day kick off of the summer hours opening of the beaches and bath house as well as bathrooms at Castle Island.

Joyce Playground meeting rescheduled to May 31st.

The CPNA Committees gave the following reports on their activities:

Marketing & Publicity - Alyssa Caddle: The web site presentation to be made at the June meeting. Get together at the L Street Tavern recruiting new members was a big success.

Zoning and Development - no report

Social Committee: Planning underway for the City Point in Bloom Initiative. Paul Goulet will give a detailed presentation of the rules and regulations for participation in this exciting event at the May meeting. Looking for new committee members.

Transportation & Utilities: Dave Matteo no changes , nothing to report

A member asked about the land originally owned by DCR on First Street. Sharon Asiaf, Mom’s Group, will try to get more information.

Parks & Gardens - Cynthia Waxman: Cynthia was not able to be present, CPNA will participate in Sen. Jack Hart’s cleanup of the beaches on Saturday May 19, 9am at the skating rink, Farragut Road.

CPNA will sponsor Garden Contest, Spring/Summer and late summer. Dates of judging to follow.
